Hi Hibiscus Friends. Just thought I'd post some Hibiscus photos from this past week starting with Hibiscus "Misbehavin".
Hibiscus Photos Dec 7-14 2008
There is NO WAY that those are real flowers...I just dont believe it!! You painted those pictures, didnt you? You took the brightest, most gorgeous colors you could find, and just PAINTED THOSE PICTURES.
Im not believing those are real flowers......
Are they really????
LOL. Of course they're real Kathy. I've been real fortunate lately in getting multiple blooms on quite a few different hibiscus. I'm definitely not complaining about THAT. I'm real happy I've been having some success getting Reblooming Bearded Iris to bloom down here. Basically everything I've read told me not to bother and that they won't bloom down here in South Florida. My success rate has only been about 50%, but that's still not bad.

Im really surprised with your luck of the iris..thats a joke, get it? I grew iris up in NJ and they did fabulous. I havent even tried down here, didnt think it would be worth it. Obviously you are doing something right.
Da Vinci is beautifull
Many thanks okijaner. I guess I'm doing something right with the "luck of the iris" Kathy. When trying to grow something that isn't typical for our Zone 10 I try to tip the scales in my favor... I guess. That may be trying to find a place in the yard with less direct sun or attempting to grow/start it during the cooler months of winter. I also fertilize things on a regular basis. With Bearded Iris I get the feeling that the Reblooming varieties may be a little less dependent on needing the winter dormancy cycle since they are types that have been bred to rebloom in the fall up North after going through a typical warm summer. Currently I have 3 other reblooming plants that are getting ready to rebloom again in the next week or two. Glad I checked...one of them bloom this morning so I snapped a photo of it. This is Reblooming Bearded Iris "Pink Attraction". This variety has been the most reliable one for me when it comes to blooming.

What a joy it must be seeing that bloom in the middle of December. Im trying to baby my hibiscus back from the hard freeze we've had in the past week. Looks like they'll be just fine, but what few buds were there are shot. Hopefully they'll bounce back quickly.
I've noticed the Bearded Iris usually bloom here for me in December. The other months I'll usually see blooms are March, May and October. Hope your Hibiscus bounce back quickly. I had a few hit pretty hard last January and it took them about 2-3 months to bounce back/look well again.
That Space Oddity is amazing...such colors.
Yes, the colors in that Space Oddity bloom are very deep. The reason for that is I took that photo early in the morning when the bloom had first opened Kathy. The colors on that bloom lighten as the day progresses. That process is common with quite a few different cultivators.
I love "My way".
The song and the hibiscus.
Misbehavin is amazing. After my bout with the broad mites last summer I was just planning on keeping the ones I have alive but I may have to have that one.
Funny about the iris, I have recently noticed a home in my neighborhood with what has to be the rebloomers. The owner hasn't a clue what they are or where she got them but they have been reblooming steadily, even during the hottest months of the summer.
I like My Way and Misbehavin also. Misbehavin is one of my very favorites because the colors are extremely bright, the blooms are very consistent and it even bloomed pretty consistently during the hot summer.
Jon
jon, your blooms are gorgeous. I need some cuttings, lol!
Jon, your blooms are terrific!!!!!! Misbehavin has absolutely stunning colors - already I'm adding to the list *sigh* ;-)
I swear, when I eventually (lol) win the lotto, I'm moving to Florida.
karen
Thanks Cathy and Karen. Misbehavin is great and it blooms pretty consistently with very good flower form. It's usually a 2-3 day bloom in the winter months which is an added bonus.
