Please help ID flower

Marion, IA(Zone 5a)

I planted some flower seeds this year. 1st year gardener so don't know much about it yet. I bought these seeds because the flowers grow well in shady areas. The plant has a reddish green stalk, pink & red flowers, long green leaves (a little serrated) with fuzzy green upside-down teardrop shaped seed pods. The blossoms grow on little stems and remind me a little of impatiens. They seem to bloom close to the leaves. Any suggestions? (Photos would be most helpful since I really don't know much about plants yet.) Thanks!!!

LindaB, if you have a photo, you can post it to the ID forum. Your description does sound like Impatiens. Here's a test: find a seedpod that is light green (almost yellow), and press it between your fingers. If it bursts open, then you'll know you have some type of impatiens (aka touch-me-nots)

I might have a photo but on unfinished roll of film. I have impatiens but this is a much larger stalk-type of plant, although perhaps impatiens come like that too! I planted late but they're 1 - 1 1/2 feet tall. I've been harvesting seeds and the pods curl up and "capture" some of the seeds so I have to uncurl it to get them all out. It has small dark seeds, sort of like minature Morning Glory seeds.

Yep, it's impatiens. I. balsamina probably. Are the flowers double, kind of like a Camellia blossom? A couple of mine are 4 feet tall (no kidding). We call them "Amazon Impatiens", and I'm keeping the seeds from them separate from the others.......even the "normal" sized plants are about 18-24". They are pretty in their own way, but they aren't your typical Impatiens hybrid, with dainty little branches :)

Sorry for the delay - kids! Anyway I don't have double blooms but otherwise it sounds like this plant is what you've described. I'm keeping the seeds separate, too! Thanks for your help and advice. I think I'm going to try hunting around the web to find a picture.
