Ok, I am fairly new to Dave's...under 2 months. Started out just wanting info on BF and Hummer Gardening and have become an addict/hostage!!
Anyhow, I've been collecting Mealy Cup Sage and Plain ole blooms it's heart out, never has a problem Red Salvia. Well, ONE problem...........very tiny seeds. I've been trying to participate in several seed trades and wanted to be able to include these, BUT, what a PIA to clean.
Any helpful hints from those who have been there done that!

Teeny Tiny Seeds errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
mj... one thing i started doing this year was... use a strainer... the tiny seeds should all fall thru and the chaff does not.
though there are some seeds where it's really not a big deal if some chaff tags a long...
last year when i started trading.... i too tried to get only the seeds, but sometimes it's very hard to do... especially when our eyes get so tired and things start to blur.
no one expects perfection... i know i dont. some seeds when i sow them... the chaff gets sown right a long with the seeds.
Welcome to Daves.
I start by rubbing these between fingers to loosen the chaff. Then placed a portion on one side of a paper plate or any flat surface with raised edges. Preferably in a light color. Then gently tilt the plate and gently tap it with your fingers. The seed will roll to the lower side of the plate. You can than remove the seeds fairly easily. The Salvia seeds are round and roll easily.
I agree with above post... no one expects perfection!
Thanks...I was just worried about sending w/ the chaff. I let them dry throughly so hopefully no problem w/ moisture being in with the seeds.
