Many happy returns of the day - hope it is a very happy one!
Happy Birthday doss!
Yes Doss, my dear buddy, have a great birthday!
Absolutely! Celebration is in order!
HAPPYBIRTHDAY !!!!
Happy birthday! Hope you have a wonderful day!
I'm having a wonderful day. Went to brunch with some friends. The son has the same birthday as mine and we've been doing brunch on our birthday for almost 20 years now. He's the same age as my kids. Then just Pilates and picking up my granddaughter at school. I love both of those things. We are going out to dinner tonight to a place that has great scallops. Simple pleasures are always the best. I try to count my blessings as often as I can and I"m so grateful for my DG friends. Thanks folks!
I can't think of a better birthday dinner than scallops!
So glad it's proving to be a happy birthday to a lady that deserves nothing but the best.
Sounds like a perfect birthday - doing things you love with people you love.
Thanks so much for the beautiful flowers. I've never seen that particular type of alstromerias and they are really lovely.
And of course roses from Zuzu. What else would we expect?
What kind of a tree is that SingingWolf? It sure is a fabulous photo. Almost makes me think that I should stop coloring my hair! I ran into a lady at the beauty parlor the other day and she said that she stopped coloring her hair when she turned 70. She told herself "Whom and I kidding?" LOL
ANd thanks for the good wishes.
Doss, I quit coloring mine when I got bored with trying to cover-up roots all the time and could not ignore them. Had my hairdresser strip the color (auburn) and who knew that underneath I had a nice head of white/grey/silver/whatever? She had people asking for my hair color when they would see it. I've never been sorry. I was in my 50s.
Maybe it's time then. How lucky that you have beautiful graying hair. Sometimes it's so lovely and sometimes it's not. It sure would save a lot of time and money though! Funny, I'd miss the lady who colors my hair too!
Lucky is not the word for it, Doss. My mom wouldn't believe me when I said I wasn't doing anything to it. Her sister had beautiful salt & pepper hair, then a lovely natural white. Mom didn't. :-(
To be honest, I had a weave done two or three times to help cover the transition. She added color back until the previous colored/uncolored hair was about gone. That's another way to go - weaving. It doesn't need to be done too often and you don't go into shock when you look in the mirror. LOL So you wouldn't have to say goodbye to your lady too soon!
Thanks Pirl. What a beautiful iris and the photo is magnificent.
You've given me cause to think about going gray Kaper. In these economic times it sure would ease the pocketbook.
A very Happy Birthday Doss, and many more filled with joy and contentment. The Frilled Enchantment is spectacular, what a beauty. Nothing here in the Northwest but grey and brown.
Hair color (for those who have enough to color. lol) is unimportant, what counts is what's under it.
well said balvenie!
doss, that is a California Coastal Live Oak tree. I wasn't able to get the whole tree in that photo, so here is one from further back. She is huge!
About hair color. I've always dreamed of a long white/silver braid. I have several white ones cropping up, and I can tell you who gave me each and every one! LOL!
Why do women cut off their hair when they reach their forties? I just don't get it. I don't bother going to the hairdresser but once or twice a year to trim mine. Just keep it clean and out from under foot. LOL! : )
Hope today is a good one for you too, doss.

Ah, that's because you have real hair, SW. Mine has been changing texture and color for years until now I don't know what to call it. Even my hairdresser is amazed at the last 10 years or so. I get mine cut SHORT every 5 weeks and if I don't, I go nuts. I am the queen of cowlicks, my HD tells me - and it is so straight it makes a broom look wavy. Many many years ago I used to get my long hair permed and my hairdresser swore he was going to need a hammer and chisel to get it around the rods soon. Next summer I'm thinking about trying a buzz cut just to see how it will grow out. I would love to have nice long hair - but I don't, so I do the best with what I have. There, now you have one person's story about why. LOL
Ka, I think my story is about the exact opposite of yours----I hate fooling with my cobweb-fine, body-less hair, so the easiest solution I found was to just let it grow long enough to braid & wrap up in a bun. I loathe going to salons because they always want to "do something" with it (and I know it's going to cost me a fortune and be an ongoing maintenance nightmare). So I trim the ends off my braid about every 3 months, and that's it. If I can keep it tidy and out of my way and not have to think about it, I have more time to focus on stuff that's more important to me. I'm sure my mother would have a fit if she saw it, after all her pincurls and roller-dos and perms and cuts and other failed attempts to make it do what SHE wanted it to...LOL!
Exactly, Ima - we do what works. :-)
Oooooh, kell, those brugs are gorgeous!
What fun hair stories! Thanks again for all of your kind thoughts. On Saturday we went to the city and visited with some friends who have a 3 month old baby. I've been knitting sweaters for him and I had one to deliver. They made a dutch baby for brunch and we had a great time. Today I've been struggling with a hard part of a vest I'm knitting for a friend. grrrrrrrr............................. I'll take a look at it tomorrow when perhaps it will go better since I'm not so tired of getting it wrong and ripping it out.
It's so fun to have the rain, isn't it? All of my plants could use a good wash.
Those brugs are gorgeous Kell. Thanks!
Dutch baby - yummmmm!
One of the (very few) things I miss about my days living in Cincinnati was the Original Pancake House which made yummy dutch babies as well as other very yummy pancakey sorts of things...out of curiosity I just looked them up on the internet just now and discovered that they've got locations in Fremont & San Jose so guess where I'm going for breakfast next weekend! LOL
We have them here, too, Liz. I also have a recipe that I make at home - not as substantial as theirs, but we love it.
Thanks KC and imapigeon for the hair input. I can't deal with the chemicals most salons use. I too have cowlicks, and passed them on to the boys. Tee Hee.
Yummy sounding Dutch Babies. Are they anything like crepes?
Doss, glad you got to visit with a baby, they are so much fun. Even if they just sleep and eat!
Certainly with you on the rain, doss. I love our Green California Christmas's. Our trees and the green house (not to mention the new roof), all need a good wash down. An unexpected morning off for DH, he hasn't had one since Thanksgiving. We usually get one rained out weekend a year, but this is nice, cold but nice.

I'm so lucky - I have a good hairdresser who doesn't like chemicals and works out of her home. She tries to find the least offensive products she can use - and will not do perms at all. When she stripped my hair I didn't smell anything.
SW, Dutch babies are very puffy pancakes made with apples. Here's a pic http://whatscookingamerica.net/Eggs/GermanPancake.htm
We'd be enjoying the rain more if we didn't have to drive up to Los Angeles Int'l Airport to pick up son and gf. However, that is a joyous task, so we'll just ignore the rain part of it. I'm thinking of the plants we just put in, too! They will be so happy.
k
Drive careful KC. I know you're really looking forward to your son's visit!
Thanks for the pic of the Dutch babies. They look Yummy!
I have a friend cut my hair these days in my home. I won't walk into a salon if I smell chemicals. Yuck! Seriously, they make it hard to breathe.
Well doss, has the next band of rain started up your way? We're getting it hard now.

The rain is hitting here and I guess that we will get some next week too. The recipe for Dutch Babies is really easy. All you need is an oven proof round skillet.
Oh Holy Pancake !!!! that looks so goooood!
It was good! It's an easy recipe for a special breakfast too. When I can stop sneezing for a while, I'll post it on the Recipe Forum.
OH KaperC, come on over and make us Sunday breakfast. YUM YUM
That looks really delicious. Nice touch with the apples. I'll head over to the recipe forum and find out how to do it. Hope that you stop sneezing soon. That must be annoying to say the least!
Sure does! Now I'm going to have to find it in the recipe forum. Yum Yum! : )
Can't think of anything better to do on a rainy day.
