Advice on Non-traditional Christmas Tree?

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

Greetings All,

I'd like a non-traditional Christmas tree. I would like something living like a lemon tree.
I can't spend too much. If I could find a tree for about $20.00 that would be great.
I have west facing windows.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks Much,
Marlene

Sometimes we just string lights on our ficus. It's lots of fun and takes up no more room because it's already there.

Have you a big house plant?

You might find a lemon tree for 20 dollars but it won't be very big. However, they seem to be easy care and people like them.
Norfolk Island Pines are sold in a lot of stores for Xmas. I think you can get a bigger one of that for 20 $. It also seems pretty easy- at least, I had one at a school library that lived. Not a true pine tree (I think) but looks like one.

Thanks for your ideas!
I don't presently have a tree, so I was going to purchase one.
I've had a lemon tree before, problem is getting it sufficient amounts of light.
I think I'd like to purchase a tree with low light requirements.
I was online last night and saw that a tree called dracena (sp?)
has low light requirements does anyone have any experience with these?

Peace to you,
Marlene

Dracaena's are easy care. They are low maintenance and low water. I water mine about every month and it does just fine. It's not very big, though, after 10 years or so. About 2 feet tall.

Maybe the houseplant forum could help you, too?

Thanks for your help and suggestions, I will visit the houseplant folks as well:)
Peace to You and to Your Home,

Grow your own Neem Tree... www.neemfoundation.org

It's a hardy tree that you can grow in a pot indoors or out, it repels pets that benefits your other house plants, it has endless wonderful healing properties, and is considered a "green" tree for saving the planet. You may find one on sale at ebay?

This year I decorated a branch that fell from one of the oak trees, it was fun and didn't cost anything LOL!
