Do you have a USDA small seed lot permit?

Does anyone have a small seed lot permit from the USDA? I just applied. How long to receive it?

Canyon Lake, TX(Zone 8b)

I learn so much from this website. What is a small seed lot permit and would anyone need one?

You can import small lots of seeds without a phytowhatever certificate and without quarantine if you have written permission.

LOL 2ndChance. I often call it a psycho-certificate. For those who don't know: 'phytosanitary certificate'. Onus in US and Canada is on receiver to have one not the sender, so take care if you are trading/sharing over the boarder.

I had about 45 trades the last months in the USA. Just a few problems that all were solved.. I just do not write on the envelop what is in it.

It's pretty easy to send small amounts of seeds around the world. That may not really be a great idea but if you know what you're doing you shouldn't unleash something horrible. LOL. Search the seed trading forum, this question has been posted many times. BTW Chiago seems to be the worse to get international seed through.

I'm working on getting one but the epremit webpage log-in is giving me fits so I'm calling the 800 number today.

Big Red: Everyone seems to have problems with the electronic application. I just faxed in the paper form.

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

haven't found that yet....found the form you fill out to send w/ order to vendor but not the premit. Try to log-in only to be told "log-in failed"...Arrrggghhh!

Got mine today!

The online application didn't work for me so I just printed out the one page application (PPQ 587) and faxed it.

hyperlink won't work, so you'll need to cut and paste.

I have had a Small lots of seed permit for about a year now. I have not had a problem getting seeds even without it. The shipper usually does not put on the envelope what is in it and I get it just fine. If you are getting huge packets of seeds then it might be wise but I have not lost anything so far.

I have purchased seed from Thailand, and a couple of islands and not had trouble. I have traded frequently with Canada, Spain and the Netherlands and not had a problem. We do not mark seeds on the envelope though.

Do your homework before you trade or purchase to make sure they aren't prohibited in either country and you will be fine. It is up to you to know what you can import.
