CLOSED: I need a moth ID please

(Chris) Des Moines, IA(Zone 5a)

I've looked back in the forum until the beginning of Sept 2008, so if I'm repeating, at least it's been awhile :)

I found this guy outside my front door back in the summer last year..thought he was a leaf at first, then took a better look. I call him the Camo Moth! He was pretty good sized-around 2 1/2 to 3 inch wing span at the widest.

thanks!

It's a Virginia Creeper Sphinx moth, Darapsa myron.

Thanks CC for posting this and claypa for the answer. We have seen this guy in his browner phase and also called it camo! Very cool.

Thanks for the fast ID! It's nice to have a name for him now :)

Just seems weird that we have a lot of Virginia Creeper vine in our yard here in Oklahoma..and now him. Guess I'm going to go do some studying :)
