HEPL - Need some ideas for Christmas for DH

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

I am really stuck this time for something neat to do for my hubby for Christmas. We have been married 46 years and pretty much have everything we need or want, more "stuff" than we have room for. The only "hint" I have got is a belt- which I got last week. He has lots of "toys" and buys himself what ever he wants, including clothes. He does not play golf any more - he only stays busy on his computer and singing in his Barbershop chorus and quartet. He is not a gardener and sure doesn't need any tools, he quit building and fixing things years ago unless it is an emergency.

He is a great guy and very generous with things for me. For my birthday last month, he got me 5 new tops, perfume and a pretty earring, necklace and bracelet set. Many of our friends say they just don't get each other things anymore because they simply have most everything they want - We are not ready to go that route, it just doesn't seem right.

What about new software or games for his computer? A new mouse or mouse pad with a picture of you and him on it. Or a framed picture of his quartet?

How about a short weekend trip? I am sure there is something nearby that you haven't been to, or seen. A museum, wine tasting tour, something like that.

It doesn't have to cost much. I am giving my hubby a winter rafting trip (no, you won't get wet) an hour on the water, snacks and hot choc by the fire and snow shoe hike all for 39 dollars each and it is only an hour from home.
We both love the outdoors, I hope I can handle it. Ha.

How about doing the 12 days of Christmas? Start on the 14th and give him something small each day. A cookie, a card, a note, $5 gift certificate to somewhere he likes, a promise of a kiss...stuff like that. I did that one year for my DH and he loved it. I left him small notes on where to find his next gift.

It was fun watching his face.

Does he grill? One year I put together a basket of assorted rubs and marinades for my DH. Beer? Some stores let you put together a 12-pack from a large choice of beers - each bottle a different kind. Make a coupon book: one coupon good for a backrub, one for a car wash, one for a favorite meal, etc.

I have found just the right thing. I know he does not have this because there was only ever one of each made. From the face of the Disney Store in downtown Manhatten is listed the six foot Mickey and Minnie in hand carved and hand painted wood. Condition used but very good. Items were saved by contractor when building was torn down. One of a kind asking a mere $16,000.00.

Some great ideas come out now! Last month for our 46th anniversary I got him a $460. program for his computer, even offered him a whole new computer as his is slowing down, but he said he did want a new one. I like the idea of several small things, something cute each day, maybe a wrapped brownie, etc. Beer is out - can't do it with all the pills he takes.

I was thinking today, maybe a short cruise in Jan, his birthday will be coming up then, I could count it as 2 in one! Think I will check out Hotwire or Priceline for a package deal. After Christmas I think there are lots of good travel deals. We got a free companion flight to anywhere in the us from T Mobile. Just brainstorming.

Good ideas. And the fun part is, you don't have to pick just one! LOL Or any. ☺

I was thinking about gifts the other day and I got to thinking about the type of gift I say every year I am going to do then don't. It is a variation of goldfinch4 idea of the grilling stuff. I had a friend whose mother in law would buy a plastic tub (fairly large) right after Christmas although any time would work then she would slowly fill it with anything she thought the recepiant would like. Not big stuff just small stuff, sometimes a new can opener or a parier knife or a pair of socks or earrings. She would do this for both her sons and their wifes. Then when Christmas rolled around she would put ribbon and bow on the tub and presto shopping all done. When I got married we were very poor. LOL As wedding gifts I got a laundry basket full of cleaning supplies and stuff like that. Some of my husbands family bought us a bill of groceries. I loved it.

Maybe you could gather some things your husband likes on a day to day basis even if it is just things he would go out and buy if he needed them. My DH is always looking for screws or flashlights stuff like that. His favorite cookies, candies, chips or socks, razors, books stuff like that. It might not be a big fancy gift but when you are looking for something then think hey I got some of that in my tub (or whatever container) and it is handy it could become the best gift of all.

Neat idea Amber - we do buy a lot of small things year round for the kids, why not for him too!

The one new thing that I saw that if DH was a reader I would get him is the Amazon Kindle-have you heard of it??

Is there a charity that he is fond of?
Perhaps a donation in his name would be a good gift.

Peace
