Mystery Lily

Battle Ground, WA(Zone 8b)

This sprang up in my mother-in-law's garden in Northern California this year. It was about 2-1/2 feet tall, and had fairly long-lasting blooms, apparently. I haven't been able to find any lilies that have this great clump of flowers. She (and I) would appreciate any help in identifying this plant. Thanks in advance.

It looks like an Asiatic lily that has faciated. Fasciation is an aberation that causes the stem to appear as several stems fused together. It also causes many more blossums than usual. Fasciated lilies usually return the following year and display normal stem and blooms. I had an oriental lily display fasciation this past summer.

Pretty no mater what .
Good thing you have a record of it.
