Why are you getting cars in your yard?

Sounds interesting.

Because people don't care when coming around the carve. They will go stright through my yard, and cut it up. People just don't care any more, it's not there yard.

I would contact the police and find out what the fine is for trespassing. Then put up a sign where the cars enter with the amount of the fine. You may be able to rent a camera to record license numbers. File charges and they should have to pay the fine.

I can think of some very mean and probably illegal things you could do! If you can afford it a fence with a "No Trespassing" sign might be good. If the corner is so dangerous the county needs to get a sign up, too.

Hey roybird! I live next to a project whose tenants and visitors are always thowing beer cans and whiskey bottles over my fence. I showed the mess to the police and they put up a sign $500 fine for dumping trash.

It helped some.

The Police told me that they would have to catch them in the act , and than they said we don't have time for this stiff.

Yes. That's why you need a camera. And you may have to go to the mayor if the police think they are too good to manage invasion and damage to your property.

Short of that post a photograph in your newspaper.

And you could put some boards with nails driven up through them in the path where the cars are going.

I like gloria's idea, mostly because while I'm normally a very nice and mild-mannered person, rude people bring out my bad side. A board with nails in it might present a hazard for people, children especially who are walking by. That could get you sued for the injury; however, you might just buy a box of tacks/nails, roofing nails seem to be very effective as I learned the hard way when our roof was replaced, and scatter them on the ground in the problem area of your property. They will be less likely to harm walkers but, as I learned the hard way, have a special affinity for finding car tires which somehow flip them upright and...

Oh, course, the camera idea is an excellent one. If you do this, you will want to make sure to get an angle that shows the car on the property along with an angle that shows the license #. If the police won't do anything (once you have pics), you might also consider contacting other law enforcement organizations such as highway patrol, sheriff (if such applies), etc. and finally, if all else fails consider posting them on youtube and/or contacting an attorney.

Roofing tacks should work.

I worked at an historic property that had osage orange trees. They have 1 inch thorns along the branches. I can tell you that some 6 inch pieces of osage orange branches will work as well as the roofing tacks.

I even received a memo from the State of Alabama that I was not allowed to have any more flat tires on the riding mower.

Might be cheaper to bunch of them cement bricks around that area. They go over one of them will tear up and do damage to the bottom of their car.

Bad thign with nails and tacs is they may not get a flat tire right away and coudl be speeding down a road or highway or something and the tire blow out and cause possible injury to themselves or other innocent folks. As mad as you are about your yard an ddon't blame ya one bit, you don't want to have maybe somebody elses injury or death on your concience.

You can take them cement bricks and space em out and then put one on top over the open space. makes it even a higher wall in some places.

You can also put them cementbricks down and put a landscape timber on top of them. That would a railing a good few feet in the air.

May not look the prettiest, but it works, had problems with old neighbors and all their friends using my yard to driv eon cuz they didn't want to get mud on their cars from his drive way. The groudn on my side ws soft and they would get tsuck and burn the tires to get out and tore up the only flat section of grass I owned.

I feel for ya. : (

Huge boulders.

my FIL used to have this problem too, but he'd also get the snow mobilers in the winter.
I dont know how [or if ] he ever solved that problem.

One solution to this around here is to put large boulders on the corners of the property. That way no one gets hurts, the cars go around, they look nice and you can see where the shovel/snow blower needs to stop.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

One super market did that. Trucks weren't supposed to use that drive. Of course they did. Back wheels of the semi would end up pushing the boulders into the mud & wreak the sod behind them. They gave up & put in big cement area. Now there are black tire tracks on the cement. It gives it a crappy look which is required in a commercial setting!

Bernie -- i've seen that too at a local bank. The huge rocks get moved and really does some damage...

it does seem like there's not an easy way to keep ignorant folks out of your yard/grass when you live on a corner ...

but i'd think a nice big line of huge boulders would do some damage to the person's car .... hopefully then they would remember NOT to cut thru the persons yard.

It would be nice to find an easy way to do the 'puncture the tire' thing without it possibly hurting others unintentionally.

it's almost a lose - lose situation

Wauseon, OH(Zone 5a)

Yes even the Snow Plows don't and they will even go through your yard. Just who gives them the right? You see I live in town. I would love to put up France post all around the curve that way they would remember that there car or truck would get damaged also.

Santa Fe, NM

If you live in town there might be a way to get the city to pay for some kind of curbing or barrier. And to install it. You would probably need some documentation to prove damages to your property.

I would get some pictures and or videos, and take then to your local news agency.. Have them put it on the air. Down here we have a news section called problem solvers, and most of the time when it gets aired on tv, it gets fixed!
