A few weeks ago, a pitt bull and a younger dog - maybe a Jack Russell mix were left off near my property. I convinced them to come to my place and eat. They hang around - they go out for a run in the fields behind my place once or twice a day. they clearly do not want to be confined with a collar or to be chained to keep them out of trouble.
Today a policeman served me with charges of keeping a vicious dogs. He says there have been six complaints.
The dog is not vicious. The little dog jumps on him and over him - pulls the ticks off him (ugh) and even prys the pitt's mouth open and cleans the dogs teeth! So obvously this is not a vicious dog, but the neighbor's are terrified of him.
I really don't need this dog (dogs) but the local shelters will not take the pitt - no room and we would not take a pitt anyway. Also there was a stern warning - watch out if anybody wants him because there is an epidemic of dog fighting here. That's the only reason somewould would take that
dog is to make him fight.
So now Ive been served - the pitt has got to be tied up. I tried once to get a collar on him and he clearly has had a bad experience. He jumps up and jerks his head and could get out of the collar with only a few tries.
So. Does anybody have any advice about the correct kind of collar for this dog. So far Ive learned - not a choke collar for a tie out. It should be a 2 in nylon collar. And he should be tethered with a chain.
Any advice on protecting this dog? On hardware strong enough to keep him out of trouble?
Need advice on tethering a pitt bull. He scares everybody.
