I received some broccoli from the farmers market that was infested with bugs. They were all inside the crown, not visible from the outside. 6 legs, and the butts are fatter than the head. They range in color from bright green to filmy white and grey. The biggest ones are three millimeters big. Its just a question of grossed out curiosity right now. Ill post in bug ID forum too. Thanks for looking and guessing and sharing
CLOSED: broccoli bug in California
Could be aphids - see http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Image:Aphids_on_broccoli.jpg for an example. These insects can be very annoying pests on members of the cabbage family, especially broccoli and Brussels sprouts.
While the picture from wikipedia was aptly named, my bugs aren't aphids. None of them have wings.
:( but thanks for the input.
Actually, most aphids are wingless - see http://207.5.17.151/biobest/images/plagen/pMyzus.jpg and http://www.augsburg.edu/home/biology/photoofmonth/Ladybirds-Aphids-close.jpg
