I may have trouble, because I'm cooking the smallest turkey I've ever seen! Won't know how to handle such a wee thing. LOL
We have a lot to be thankful for and I'm looking forward to the day with my very special fella. Hope we get to sit on the veranda and watch the world go by for a bit.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone - I'm very thankful for all my friends on DG.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I'm going to a friend's house tomorrow (my family is all back east ...I can only handle holiday travel once a year and they would rather see me for Christmas!) I'm roasting a fake turkey and making some stuffed acorn squash to take with me--should be yummy!

Yes, Happy Thanksgiving! I'm having 14 to dinner at my house, family and friends. My sister cooks the turkey although I do most of the rest. She's cooked the turkey for so long I don't know that I'd be able to do it! LOL My mom and dad are driving up from Gardena so it will be really fun to see them. My DGD has flown in from Denver and we've had a really fun time shopping, etc. Most of the prep is done. Thank goodness I discovered how to make gravy the day before the holiday. That last minute gravy thing always seemed a little much.

Have a great day!

Gardena???? I grew up in Gardena! Small world again. :-)
Yep, I don't like that last minute gravy dance, either. How do you do it ahead of time? My DH never has enough.

HI Anna! Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Weege, I gotta tell ya.....on our local news no more than 10 minutes ago, they said that the thing about tryptophan is a myth. One would have to eat far, far more turkey than one could and even then it would have to be on an empty stomach. They said, uh, that it probably had more to do with, uh, eating too much and drinking too much...but I didn't say that....'they' did...lol....
And, yes, I'm thankful for all of my DG friends also.

Hi Anna! Happy Thanksgiving to you!
I'm also having 14 here for dinner, well just my family and their better halves make 10! Looking forward to a wonderful, day and good food. I smoked my turkey yesterday and it's ready to pop back in the oven for awhile to heat.
Thanks Sherry for the info, I'm putting an extra piece on my plate then!
Everyone, enjoy your day, your friends, your family, we all have so much to be thankful for.

Here's the recipe for the gravy. Reheat it over low heat. Perfect every time!
Portobello Gravy

1/2 C butter
1/2 C Flour
3 C chicken broth
1 C milk
Turkey parts (wings, thighs)
2 Large Portobello Mushrooms

Saute turkey parts in 1T butter and 1 T oil until brown. This may be quite smoky so be sure to turn your fan on.
Saute diced portobellos in 1T butter and 1 T oil.
Remove parts
Add 1/2 C butter and melt.
Add 2 C broth and stir up browned bits
Shake 1C chicken broth with 1/2 C flour until well mixed.
Add flour mix to gravy gradually over the heat until just bubbling and thick
Add milk and portobellos and cook until thick again
Add salt and pepper.

oooh, doss, this sounds DELISH! I'll definitely try it. My DH boils down the turkey bones in the pressure cooker, so I always have great broth from previous birds for my gravy (which is good because he always BBQs our turkey). I like the idea of the 'shrooms added....yum!

Lucky you to have turkey broth. What a clever thing to do with the carcass.
