Hope you have a nice, relaxing day!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY 4PAWS!
Happy Birthday! Enjoy YOUR day.
Liz, what a gorgeous hibiscus! How cold-hardy is it and what variety, please?
It's called 'Born To Be Wild'. It's a tropical so supposedly they're hardy to 9a, but I always keep all my hibiscus in the greenhouse for the winter. Back when I lived in Martinez which was zone 9b I had some survive the winter outside, but they lost all their leaves and didn't bloom again until late summer, vs with the GH they'll often bloom through the winter and keep going right into the spring. And here in Dublin I definitely feel like there's more frost and colder nights here than what I had when I lived up in Martinez, so I'm not sure if they'd survive here or not without the GH--zone 9a in Florida is fine for them but not here.
Thank you, and yes, that is a lovely, lovely flower!
It looks like I could be heading back to snow and no water by the spring, so I'm really appreciating what I have here now. My worms and dirt are so amazing! If I do, I will be taking some of both with me, and if I have to live it in, I'll need a greenhouse. Actually, the idea of living in a greenhouse has always interested me....kind of like living in one of those swimming pool bubbles some hotels have in snow regions, warm and steamy like a jungle. Clothes and stuff might not like it, though.
Thank you again!
Check out SingingWolf's greenhouse - isn't it lovely? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5786638
I wanna MOVE IN THERE!
Me toooo!
=^..^=
ah, yes..very lovely...mine would have to be more rustic...lots of paws around here.
I'd have to have a hoop house paws puddle alongside the people pool. :-).
Happy Birthday !!!! I hope you had a great day ! :)
I still have lots of critters that live in that green house. It gets pretty hot and humid in the summer. Kind of like Texas without the mosquitos. The fans help. I want to put a hammock in there and spend the summer in there myself! : ) LOL! The worst thing is how to get the dirt off the top, and how to get rid of the algae on the inside walls. I'm still learning about the green house care and feeding. I really need to get in there and weed. Maybe next week after my brother and his family have to go home.
It's a nice benefit having the greenhouse over the pool.

Yes, I've wondered how to deal with the roof of a greenhouse. I'm having a hard enough time cleaning a one-story house roof, or even my travel trailer, since I'm rather afraid of heights. Each new "thing" we add creates new questions and learning, eh? It's good.
I use a pressure nozzle on my hose and that really helps, especially if I can get my kids to go up the ladder and wash off the very top. Failing that, I pray for a good hard rain. : )
It's all good. I was told I need to scrub off the algae by hand, RATS! : (
Green house has been invaded by gophers. Where is a good gopher snake when you need one? We also found toads and frogs swimming in the pool last week. None since. I fished them out, just don't like sharing my pool with them, but hey, it rained, it's their instinct. Just glad I found them still swimming. The alternative (bloated and floating) is totally yucky! I try to leave a pool toy or something in there so they can climb out.
It's all good, but you do learn something new every day.
