Just saw it myself, and sent the link to the Natural History listserve. One of my roommates in grad school had ‘Maggot’ as a nickname, which he usually would pronounce as if it had many more syllables: ‘Maaaaaaggggoooooottttttt...’ In spite of this distinction, he went on to full professorship and became a department chairman.
