Two new Leyland Cypress cultivars . . . or an example of why it isn't a good idea to plant them in small gardens . . .
Left: Cupressus × leylandii 'Anne Boleyn'
Right: Cupressus × leylandii 'Louis XVI'

Leyland Cypress, ... Or How Not To Do It
It looks like the birch got a "crown reduction", too.
LOL!
Whew!
That's hilarious, in a painful sort of way...
I planted an entire row of them, to screen out the neighbors yard. Nice neighbors but I wanted a little more privacy in the back and they have a huge garage that I would rather not see. Mine should have space to grow.
I hope that's S P A C E !
Oh My Goodness! There's just no justification for that tree in an urban setting.
WOW that is huge. I our area they are quite often trimmed into tall hedges but keeping a tree with that much growth potential to about 12ft could be difficult.
Emeral green arborvitie only gets 12 feet, and makes a nicer hedge.
Mike
Yes they are very pretty and make a beautiful hedge. But in my area they are prone to snow damage. There is a home near us that had a beautiful curved hedge of arborvitae but they had so much trouble that they have started to remove them. We have quite a bit of space down that side of the pasture hopefully the Leland will work for us.
