Help with Apricot pits

Richland, WA(Zone 7b)

I will try again- surely someone out there can give me some help-I have some pits from a delicious Apricot-the person who gave them to me told me the tree was from a seedling- I put them in the fridge in July. Now what do I do? Should they be nicked or cracked, or do I just plant them? I would love to grow a tree.

As far as I know you just plant them.

We planted a store bought peach seed in the fall. I put it an inch under and a cage around it to mark it. It grew and 3 years later we were lucky to get a delicious peach tree. Seeds don't always come true to the parent, but I hope you get a nice tree! I am currently waiting on another peach tree to get old enough to fruit.

Apricot seed germinate very easily, plant about as deep as the seed is wide in the late Winter, but you might be better off if you have access to the mother tree to take buds from it and graft onto a stock that is suitable for your soil type. Apricot is a bit fussy and requires good drainage and fairly deep soil, if your soil is a bit on the heavy side or prone to water logging a plum would make the better stock or if you have good soil but a bit heavy peach would be better. Plum stock is usually grown from cuttings and Peach from seed which needs to have a period in the Fridge or if your Winter is reasonably cold planted out where it will get the chilling effect.
