Easy Brug Cutttings for Postage

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

CLOSED

For those starting out, these are some of the easiest brugs to grow. They are mostly below the 'Y' cuttings, woody or semi woody and some are very thick. Please help keep track of the numbers and post here. I'll contact you by dmail.

I currently had 10 each of the following:
Suaveolens Pink http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/53696/

Kyles Pink http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/53650/

Donna's Monster White (not allowed to be named, but a great blooming fragrant white brug)-see photo

**Adding--Postage should be $4.80 for under 1 pound sent priority, I can usually get 3-4 cuttings in for under a pound -- when I get to the big fat ones, if may be more if you get all 3.

Columbia, MO(Zone 5b)

I am just starting out and was able to get in on the brug co-op and now I am hooked. Can I have one of each? I promise they will have good homes! Thank you so much for sharing with us. :^)

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

I would love the monster white if there are enough.

Canyon Lake, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh, Thank You! I would like one of the most fragrant of the pinks and one of the white ones.

But only if they will tolerate Texas heat. No use wasting a plant.

Many Thanks,

Jerry

Rome, GA(Zone 7b)

I would like one of each if you have any left!

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

May I have a Monster White?

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

K, looks like I must close this and do the tally up. I have a quite a few that dmailed instead of posted here and must decide what I can fill. Monster should not be a problem tho. All that I can fill will be sent a Dmail labled "Postage Cuttings".

Please be reminded that "Donna's Monster" is NOT a registered brug.

Eunice, MO(Zone 5b)

So it doesn't come with a pedigree I would just lose it anyway LOL

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

I'm happy to say that I can fill all orders but have to weigh them all so please, bear with me. To top it off, I just found out I'm getting company for a couple days and gotta clean house, ugh! I've been too busy stuffing my basement with plants to clean!

Eunice, MO(Zone 5b)

Company should be coming to see you not the house so do not worry about them.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Vi... no worries here..lol.. I understand how you feel when company comes. Don't worry about the cuttings for now

Union City, CA(Zone 9b)

Any monster white left ?

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Just wait till you can get to them. Don't cut yourself short on time.

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

Take care of the company first.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Thanks for understanding, if you saw my neglected house and basement full of plants under lights, you'd understand, lol.

Just as well, we just had a couple nights of frost! Am planning to get these out on Monday and perhaps get my sis to help, lol. Most are already cut and in the bubbler, some of those big ones are now short fat chunks in order to keep postage down, but haven't been weighed yet.

Hope no one is going away for Thanksgiving--if so, LMK.

Relax and don't fret. Do what you need to do. It is a hectic time of year anyway. Don't make it harder on yourself.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

I'll be here .. no worries Vi... have fun with your company.. and don't wear yourself out before they get there..lol

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Sorry folks, Tues & Wed show below freezing temps again--very unusual for mid Georgia. Guess we wait another week. Just spoke to a friend who is US mail driver and cautioned against it. Think I'll need to go out and spend Jerry's extra funds on bubble wrap--so let's all thank texasrockgarden!

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

TY Texasrockgarden!! Naturally we all want healthy cuttings, so please don't worry Vi!!

K, all but one pkg are on their way. All cuttings are marked on the cuttings as:
SP-Suaveolens Pink, KP-Kyles Pink & Monster. BTW, Laundry markers have done good for me.

I'd like to remind the new folks to get nubbies before planting. Winter potting can be tricky and I've had better luck with the big Solo cups (with holes) or a 4" pot. Saturate thoughly, let dry and water sparingly--most cuttings are lost due to overwatering.

Good Luck!

Union City, CA(Zone 9b)

as - violabird said - you soak in water [ I crush an aspirin and put in a gallon of water ] . You should stick a toothpick in bottom of cutting so it doesn't sit on bottom and rot . Anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks white spots will form on cutting part that is under water . Leave toothpick in so cutting is not on bottom of pot and dirt just around it .

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

tonyjr the toothpick idea is awsome! like an avacado seed ! I really appreciate that suggestion, the brug cuttings would certainly have a less stressful time if not soaked in water! Debra

Canyon Lake, TX(Zone 8b)

OK, just so I understand here, the cutting goes in water in solo cup until little white nubbies appear. Cutting must not rest on the bottom of the solo cup and water must be kept fresh. How far up the cutting should the rise to?

Once nubbies (not water roots) appear, drain the solo cup and burn holes in the bottom for drainage. Refill the solo cup with a rooting medium (not dirt) and keep moist, but not wet. Probably a good idea to keep the cutting from getting too cold at this stage.

Keep fingers crossed until buds appear (hopefully in a couple weeks). After leaves appear, spray with the Plant Elixir as formulated on another thread in this forum (see The Recipe).

Am I anywhere close with this?

Thanks

(smile) if this doesn't work, I will have to just stick the cutting in a jar of water with a green willow switch and go from their, keeping it dark and warm.

The cutting can sit on the bottom of the cup with the water in it... just don't let it get stagnant... a few drops of hydrogen peroxide will help... if you have an aquarium pump and some tubing.. stick the tubin in the water.. make it into a bubbler to increase oxygenation. if you are able to do that, you do not have to change the water.... no problem there... once you have nubbies or small roots, time to put in either moss or soil.. the moss is working great for me... first time I have used it. I did not put holes in the cups with the moss .. just keep it mosit. Once leaves start appearing, I mist with the recipe and keep the moss moist... later when they are too big for the cups, I will move them into pots with soil.. moss and all.

Enjoy!

Rome, GA(Zone 7b)

I got my cuttings today and they are great!! Thank you so much for taking time out of your holiday to share these with us.

Columbia, MO(Zone 5b)

Got mine today too. I was pretty concerned as a cold front has moved in and the temps dropped like a rock. We had light snow all weekend and still have some on the ground here. The cuttings were packed so well that it did not faze them a bit and they are currently in the plant room in water on top of a heat mat. Hoping that this will keep the water at about room temperature. They even have white nubbies already. Will put in moss tomorrow. Thank you so much for your generosity to a newbie! :^)

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

Mine are here, and are already rooted! Thanks bunches!!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Thankyou so very much, a nice surprise to come home too.. I will send you pictures as they bloom out..Debra

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Vi...

I also got mine today.. wow.. thanks so much!! Some of mine has some little roots too!!

Becky

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Glad that y'all are happy, I did my best. Just don't blame me if the die, lol. Winter is hard and I recall losing 70% of my first attempts at rooting in the winter, which is why I prefer to bubble.

I still have one box to get out, sorry Kathy, haven't been feeling well.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

will be bubbling here, Violabird.. and gosh.. please try to feel better would ya?? maybe take a long warm bath with sweet smelling brug blooms in the water or something.. ( that won't hurt a body will it>?)
