"Hybridyzing" for foliage

szarvas, Hungary

Varied foliage is also cool !

I know Cameo Elegance as a clear foliage but tiny plant ( little leaf- little bloom ) , is it an other cultivars with large white leaves?

Making crossing for bloom and perhaps obtain as second effect a really varied foliage ?

I find this pic in Japan - no name !!!!

I like the pic you have posted above dany =). I don't know of any larger-leafed plants that has as much variegation and I haven't grown cameo elegans, so they look nothing like the pic you have posted?

I think that'll be a great experiment =) are you going to try that once you find a suitable variegated large-leafed morning glory?

Dany - That is really a stunning photo of foliage in the photo! Wish we knew the name of that cultivar. Would love to have some like that myself! :-)

I grew Kohkan and it had very nice variegated foliage. But as the vine grew, the foliage variegation wasn't as pronounced. See photo.

I had a couple of Cameo Elegance reseed from last year and the foilage looked a lot like the first photo, And a couple of I. nil crosses that started off that way till the whitefly got them. I'm surprised at how many of the Cameo Elegance reseeded too, well, that was one plant that I didn't worry about collecting seeds from as the others were more of a priority but I didn't think any seeds would survive winter either.

Thanks Antoinette! I will grow some of my seeds of Cameo Elegance. I got some seeds in a trade, but hadn't put them on the priority list to grow yet. Must do that! Love the foliage!

Eliz - Arlen had previously posted regarding his interpretation of the 'crystal' type of leaf variegation

did anybody try the hanging one posted by dany here? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5921175

I purchased these and have been watching it like an eagle but it seems like nobody was buying it (most ebayers were bidding for the shredded petals and other mutant types) or "old-timers" already bought it...

thank you Ron for the info, got some reading catch up to do for the dwarfs =).

BOTH of the vines are quite outstanding in their foliage color, pattern, and leaf shape! Very, very nice choices Dany! Are the photos of your plants? If so, I'm very interested in seeds later on. I grow the vines for foliage and for blooms. Some of the vine leafs are so pretty, I wouldn't care if it bloomed at all. :-)

Did I send you seeds for Kohkan in a previous seed swap? I don't think I sent you any in the current bubble envelope coming your way. (Which I hope you get soon!) Kohkan has nice variegated foliage too and huge blooms! It was one of my favorites from this past season! It would be wonderful to cross some of these cultivars to see what we'd get! :-)

Becky ,
No the pic is from the seller on ebay .
I don't buy those seeds because in the comments they say that the colour of the bloom is a old bloom colour .

I've got seeds from your Kohkan Blizzard ( first transaction )

Dany - Oh ... I thought they were some you were growing. I'm glad you got some of my Kohkan seeds. It has some nice variegated foliage. What cultivars are you currently growing?

szarvas, Hungary

Becky I'm waiting spring time !
Some MG in container were in the green house but at the end they make flower without corolla - it's torture !

I'm planning the futur season - which MG will be in container and which in the garden and where because of the purpurea volonteers.
In 2009 for me is the " crossing year "

I NEED A THREAD OVER THE METHOD

I 've hundred questions
wich cultivar - cultivar to increase the size of the bloom - the tag system - classic MG like Akatsuki no Umi is a stable cultivar , is he pure ? ...etc...etc...

Dany
