Exactly what kind of poppies are you talking about. Poppies need to be surface sown meaning don't cover them up.
So, I Threw Out my Poppy Seeds
That's what I did last year and what I am going to do today. Just lightly rack and then "throw" the seeds out. Easy.
I have the kind Sheila has since my seeds came from her. I haven't gone out to check my little seedlings since the cold weather overnight.
LouC, What do you mean "lightly rack"?
Almost all wildflower seeds like to be surface sown. Regarding poppies I have had the best luck with Shirley, Flanders and CA poppies but I put then out in the form of seed balls. I'm thinking of trying oriental poppies but I might be wasting my time.
What is you zone?
I am sending some seeds out tomorrow Christi.
Yippee!
I think I'm in zone 8b.
Lisa...
If you want to go back and enter your location and zone you can.
Go to 'my info' then click 'manage preferences', and select 'location'. It has a link to the zone map. My location was a bit confusing, but at the bottom it has towns listed with normal temp ranges. I used that as my zone confusion breaker.
Easy to do... http://www.garden.org/zipzone/ just pop in your zipcode.
Thanks Pod... It showed me in 7B, but I say it is more 8a because of the temps. This is what the map DG links to shows are the min. temps. I am on the border of the two zones and could go either way. But here I have less in common with Little Rock and more with Dallas.
7b.....5 to 10 F - Little Rock, Arkansas; Griffin, Georgia
8a....10 to 15 F - Tifton, Georgia; Dallas, Texas
Yes, there are variables. We are colder than most of the area of TX parallel to us. I am over 100 miles south of Shreveport but our temps are similar. On the other hand, I am in a bit of a microclimate at home, staying warmer than most around us. And I agree, it is good to have a zone with the used id so we have a clue to their climate. Good idea!
I already had my location entered but I entered my zone so lets see what happens. This computer and I don't get along. Just trying to put my stuff on the Market Place was like brain surgery. so thanks for the help.
