Garden Photos

Ohh Sally, so sorry about the transmission. Better here than on the road. You're right about the "bummer" part. Freezing my tuchas off up here this week while the new roof goes on.

Where have you been Mike? I was thinking I needed to communicate with you about some plant or other. Can't remember what, but DM if you can. You grew that ginko from seed? That's incredible. If Becky doesn't have extra Ha'B seed, I probably do. Haven't been hiking around the Atlanta woods to check, but it's usually in several places. We have several kousa dogwoods as well. I'll be happy to share.

Mike, I'll get some seed for you, not sure if it will grow though. I could dig up some, its scattered all over here.

Laurel, I'll take kousa dogwood. My DS has one in his front yard that hasn't flowered the last few years. I think it needs something, but not sure what. He doesn't do yard stuff.

Beautiful photos. Fall is my favorite time of the year. Even though I'm not crazy about Brrrrr cold weather! My favorite is when the weather is just starting to get cold. It makes me think of drinking hot chocolate at Friday night high school football game. Mmmm!

My 5th grader will be having Christmas caroling with her classmate at the local shopping center in a few weeks. I can't believe the holidays are almost here.

Sally, hope you can get your pilgrimage to Texas going tomorrow. Have a wonderful trip and Winter.

Becky, I'll check out the Kousas and see what's on them. I have a few small ones if you want to day trip to Atlanta and dig one. I'm not sure what their habit is, but we had one go down a few years ago and I'm still trying to figure out if it seeded or if it rooted a bunch of young'uns off its base. The people in the NE can grow Kousa, but not our Cornus florida.

Oh, Nicole, I am pining for the summer veggie garden while still planting gifts from the RU. There must be a "farmer" gene in me somewhere. :) It was a hard day dragging all those mushy tomato vines off to their final resting place yesterday. I've turned DD's empty nest bedroom into a clearing house for drying herbs and ripening tobascos. This is what's on the floor.

Becky, I have never grown any sweet shrub from seed befor, but am willing.I have a friend here who says that when you grow them from seed, they loose some smell.I can't see why, if that was the case, they wouldn't have any sent by now.Any one hear about that?
Becky, if it would be better, I could pay you a visit, and dig some of the shoots. However, if the shoots grew from the seed, then lets start with seed.
Thank you, Mike

I think Becky has the hearts a bustin' and I have the sweet shrub, Mike. We are on the same northward route, but about 45 min. apart. If you'd like to dig a few of my shrubs your welcome, but you can't tell now that the leaves are off (except the ones with drupes). If you'd like some drupes now, or come and dig some babies in Spring, let me know.

Sally, I'm one of those people who likes to eat dessert first!

Laurel, I remembered some of you veggie photos. They were so beautiful. May be someday I can grow a vegetable garden. When my dog is bigger and she can scare off the deer and rabbits. Right now, she's scared of the deer. She was out in the back yard tonight and heard the deer in the leaves and she came running back to the sunroom's door. Poor thing.

Lili, be careful of that dessert first , it'll make you big , like me . lol . I could live on sweets . Maypop cooks all the good stuff , and good for you , my expertise is in cobblers and sweet rolls, puddin sauces . Better stick with Maypop .Remember, I can't even make jalapeno without making jelly out of it .My son is waiting on that cheesecake , told him about it ,and his dw wants it . she cooks like Maypop but indulges him with goodies.I'll make you and the bunch a coupla pecan pies the next get together. I dug up some sweet shrub a few years ago and planted them . eight years later , I had to dig them all up because they were invading my wild azalias that i had transplanted from the woods. they put up new growth from the roots and were spreading all over everything . I love the scent but mine didn't have any after transplanting. lots of blooms, tho.Got the van back yesterday and shooting to leave tomorrow . gosh , I'm going to miss all of you .I'm going to have to look into a laptop, get with Maypop and learn what I can do and not . I'm sure I want one tho. I told her once before , she knows everything .Hehe. But all kidding aside , Maypop you do amaze me , laying tile , construction , design, crafts , cooking ,travel, run front end loader, bobcat , loves everyone . An inspiration to all .DG has some of the most inspirational people of any group I've ever known. I'm so happy to have found DG. Everyone have safe and blessed hollidays , and talk to you when we get back . digger and johnny

Sally, you and Johnny have a safe trip. Hope you have warmer weather in Texas. You've really made me hungry with the cobblers, sweet rolls and pecan pie, oh my. See ya when you get back.

Mike, I got some seed off the hearts-a-bustin yesterday. Its drying.

Laurel, are you saving some seed from that tabasco plant? I'd like to try that one. We can wait until spring for dogwood seed or seedlings. I've got so much to clean up since the frost.

Nicole, that dog sure is a cutie. I bet she'll get braver as she gets older.

Besky, I have red, and white Texas hibiscus seed, if you are interested in swapping.I was surprise at how beautiful the white were in contrast with the red. They are on each side of the drive.

Mike, I've got the red, but would really like some white. Thanks.

hcmcdone, how tall are your hearts-a-bustin? They look taller than mine. Mine are in pretty deep shade. Only about 2-2 1/2 ft tall.

Powder Springs, GA(Zone 7b)

One of my hearts a bursting (or busting) is over 6 foot tall and using a beech tree to climb up.
