I just found this in my Plumbago The spider's body is abou 1/2" long and it seems to have cocooned another like it (its mate?) alive!!!!!! The poor little guy in the cocoon's legs are still moving! Anyone know what they are? Dangerous? Beneficial?

The spider doing the spinning is Argiope aurantia, a common orb weaver that goes by a number of common names - see http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/69/. They are harmless to humans. I cannot see enough of the wrapped spider to identify it; mating among spiders can be hazardous, and the smaller male sometimes is mistaken for a meal instead of a mate. Also, most spiders are quite indiscriminate feeders, and will eat just about anything that they can capture, including other spiders.
