Thanks, Gemini! I need to be better about saving receipts - this time it paid off! The lysimachia is "Goldilocks", which I have grown in pots in previous years (it trails nicely). I tried Baltic ivy there, but it didn't do much. This will be the second year for the lysimachia, which seems to be tough enough to endure the drought, dog walkers and roadside pollutants this spot receives.
My Bed of Tulips
Looking good, Leawood! May they all bloom and thrive!
Happy Easter, LWG, Angie and everyone.
Lea - it looks wonderful. Can't wait to see them all in bloom.
Happy Easter to all.
Looks great, good luck with the boxwood.
Looks wonderful and so neat and tidy!! Happy Easter everyone.

That's a labor of love.
They look great. I bet lots of people stop and give you compliments on them when they are blooming. Nice for the garden to be out by the street like that, good for everyone to enjoy.
Thanks, Rita. Yeah, having my garden so exposed does mean I get a lot of conversation from walkers, joggers and people taking their kids and dogs on a walk (this neighborhood is full of walkers!) as I work in the flower beds. I always offer that I have a spare shovel (or rake), but so far, few takers.
I have gardens just off the sidewalk also. Mine are mostly roses and daylilies but I also gets lots of conversation as I am working out in front from passersby. We also have lots and lots of foot traffic as there is a big park accross the street. Plus the dog walkers usually come by twice each day.
Gardens are great 'conversation starters' among neighbors. People you might not know otherwise, stop to chat as they pass by and it builds a stronger sense of 'neighborhood', I think.
All my neighbors come by each spring wondering what I am going to do next each year. I have met so many people from walking distance around here that I never would have spoken too if it wasn't for the gardens out front.
Almost... the tulips are starting to open today (78 degrees - no wonder!) and I'm afraid I'm in for a big disappointment! For nine months (almost like a baby!) I've been anticipating a bed of bright yellow Mrs. John Scheepers tulips - I think something is wrong - mis-labeled? Before I bash the bulb seller I bought them from, I'm sending a message to see what they have to say for these VERY pale tulips.
Oh no!
They may darken after they're open a few days. I'm sure they'll be beautiful.
Anxiously waiting.....
No matter what color yellow they turn out to be they will be outstanding!!
I have my fingers crossed and waiting to see the results of your hard work. They will be gorgeous I'm sure.
Cuckoo
I think they will be a bright yellow when opened, but no matter, it is going to be a show winner. Patti
Have any popped? If it is reassuring at all, I put in a bunch of vibrant yellow ones last fall. When they were preparing to open, it looked like they would be almost white, but they are indeed the bright yellow. The cardinal red ones looked like they would be pink, but are also true to color. So there is hope. . .
I think it looks wonderful. We have a heat wave hitting this weekend too,
Christine
I think this needs a tulip cam for us to monitor......
Ginger
HMMMMM. You might be on to something, Ginger!
We could each set up cams and everyone could watch the grass grow and the seasons change - who needs a garden - we could all sit at our monitors and not get arthritis or seasonal allergies!
But wait - don't we all work in our gardens for the sheer joy of dirt under our nails?
LOL - ROFL!
I wish you could have seen my DH's face when I took us to the Swan Island dahlia cam.
"We're going to lay here in bed and wait for plants to grow?"
Uh huh...
Ginger
Hysterical!
You all are way to funny......Ha Ha Cuckoo
I wonder what tulip it is if not Mrs.Scheepers? It is tall and elegant for sure,as OHG says, but not canary yellow! But I adore any pale yellow flowers, so I am loving your beautifully grown stand, but understand that it isn't what you have so patiently waited for. Glad the storm passed and they were not flattened.

Whatever they are...they are beauties.
I love them, they sure are healthy and as I've already said the color is pretty, you may still be surprised in the next few days..
Christine
Leawood they are really beautiful and so many together sure shows your hard work last fall. Whats planted around your tulips? They have a great green color and look so nice too.
Cuckoo
Oh, I love your display of spring tulips! So elegant!
But I understand your dismay about the color expectations. I think Scheepers' catalog calls 'Mrs. John T. Scheepers' a 'golden yellow', and yours, I dare say, aren't quite that...I would be disappointed too, for sure. But it's still so lovely, and the ivory seems to really look beautiful in your setting.
I hope you get some several days of tulip viewing pleasure and the weather stays on the cool side! The gardener of such a splendid planting deserves a lot of enjoyment! (That's a lot of holes!) t.
Leawood: Lovely, lovely tulips, whatever they be. I know you're disappointed with the color, but they're so elegant. Quite soothing.
Thanks, All! I'm happy to see them bloom and won't moan any more. The weather is quite warm (high 70's) but we're expecting rain tonite so maybe it will cool down and let them last a day or two.
