I thought it might be interesting to compare prices for cut flowers around the world.
Cut flowers purchased from your local Florists, supermarkets, garden centres or flower markets.
Even if you don't buy the flowers, tell us how much they are sold for in your area.

I put the Iris and tulips together in a Hand tie arrangement.

marvelous....just marvelous. I don't know how £2.50 compares to the American dollar, but seems pretty cheap to me. Great work you do.

Do you buy flowers during the winter time?
Just for the heck of it I went to a currency converter online and 2.50 in british pound is about 3.80 USD. So yes, for that bunch of roses I think was a pretty good buy. At our Walmart that bunch would probably be 5.99 or 6.99 USD.
I live in a small town where fresh cut flowers are not available in the winter. I try my best to go to the big city (as I call it) the least amount possible due to economy.
I do however have bunches and bunches of drieds. The only way I generally arrange those though is on wreaths and swags. Otherwise for any taller or upright arrangement I would have to use a lot of floral wire.

That small mix autumn bouquet would be about $8.00 at our supermarket, way too much fo me to justify spending. I will enjoy yours and be patient for my own until spring!

Terri, I think those prices are similar to what I see at my flower shops, except the aspidistra. First, you don't see asp. leaves in flower shops, 2nd don't know that I'd pay US$6 or 3 english pounds for leaves. In my area, I can buy an aspidistra plant for US$6 and build my own stash for future arrangements, lol.
Also, I see a lot of those small rose bouquets for US$5 or 2.5 pounds, but they usually don't open, so I seldom buy them. I think they are Chinese imports.

Hi Vossner, The Aspidistra are house plants here, the light is so bad, it would take years to grow a plant with those big leaves. lol. The plants sell for £6.00 or so, with smaller leaves. They are imported from Holland I think, most things are!!

They do make wonderful easy houseplants though not that many people grow them indoors; mostly outdoors.
Oh boy, I see the wheels turning friend!
In my area, the ones planted outdoors can get terribly ratty in summer, even when planted in shade but the ones growing as housplants always look nice and green. All you have to do is keep them watered.
Terri those sprayed ones will be perfect for a NY arrangement.
Aspidistra do make great house plants. I've had a few over the years but always seem to kill them off! lol. The leaves usually last quite a long time when cut, and are great for leaf manipulation.
