Forget www.npausa & just type in npausa
i got pigeons comeing too!!!
yes the boys would be better to keep cause they'd make more almonds.
thank u so much for the info!! i do know that one site had shows listed i don't think were to far from me. yes someone else gave me the link for the supplies and i ordered a catalog before the birds got here but it is not here yet.
and so u all know the almond and black girl have offically mated i just caught them, rotfl. hopefully by next week i'll have an egg. that was awesome so elagant and beautiful!!
Well there you have it almond roos are keepers. Cool!
Silkie, your almond bird is not a true almond but a blue qualmond which is related to almond. True almond has a a deep yellow background with red, white and black flecking. One other thing, when you have a coop full of off springs DO NOT mate 2 almonds together , almond carries what they call a lethal gene, mating 2 almonds will cause blind birds, eggs that don't hatch or chicks that die within a few days 50% of the time. Almond is my favorite too, I have a dozen that I work with.

hmm. yes the breeder told me about the almond lethal gene she said never to mate him 2 another almond. he does have flecking in him not sure what ya mean though. they actually all look different in person kinda cause the pics r from my cell phone. i need to take better pics of them.
thanks,
silkie

silkiechick just as a precaution please take your email out of your post and dmail it to John. There are some not-nice people out there who shouldn't have this info.
it is not my personal email addy i use that on the net all the time and on my website it is my public email but yes i did edit it for those who are worried, lol. it is not linked to anything personal so no worries.
thanks,
silkie
i got the link john, thank u it is very much full of great pigeon info!! i haven't had time to read it all but i have saved it to favorites so i can return to it often to read up.
well my red/white pair where shipped yesterday and r not here today, i'm worried it hit freezeing last night here i'm praying they make it here from tx safely. they should definately be in tomarrow but i don't want them out in this weather so i'm on pins and needles again till they get here.
my new serama eggs came in today was suppost to get 6 and she sent 8 and all made it safely!! so if they hatch i'll have a new bloodline added to them.
oh and i saved the best news for last...........
drum roll please!!!!!
alexandrite the dun bar and topaz the blue pigeons r gonna be parents!!!!
~I GOT MY FIRST PIGEON EGG TODAY!!!!!! ~
OMG! i'm so excited and it looks like a little serama egg it is perfect looking!!!
That's great
OMG there is nothing to fluffer!!!! They must need a really toasty bator when they're first born?
thank u!! it was like finding a golden egg!! i knew the bottom pair had been mateing but i wasn't for definate if the top ones had. they r both takeing turns sitting and that little stinker made a nest on the floor bottom not in the basket, lol.
onyx the black girl is sitting in her basket alot today but no egg from her that i noticed. i figered onyx would be the first layer and have an egg from her by mid week possibly i was not expecting to see one from them yet, rotfl. if i'd of not been changeing the water and feeding and she hadn't moved i'd of not seen it.
i have seen lots of pics online of baby pigeons they look like baby pelicans, lmbo, only a face a momma could love when they r that young but so uggy they r just darling. i have never seen a baby pigeon in my life so i am more than thrilled for them to be expecting. mom and dad will be raiseing them for me and i will not be hand rearing them as i do my cockatiels.
i will keep u posted how things go i don't want to mess with takeing a pic of egg and them not careing for it.
love the fantail!!!!! what all colors do u have black and whites?
O they would luv that - staying all cosy undernearth them. They look so very fragile.
Right now i have a pair of pure whites and those are their babys in the pic. I had the black fantails with the white bands on their tails but i bred those and they had a white and brown baby :
I would like more colors but i've got to find a better breeder in my area i don't do mixed birds.
If theres one thing i'm firm about it's my genetics and my whites breed true pure white.
I prefer my Owls i have those in Black wing, Brown Wing and a new one kind of a Caramel Wing. But i saw a pigeon on pigeon talk it was a white fantail with black wings like and owl. I'm going to try and reproduce that by crossing a owl with a white fan tail.
The pic is the new color i'm working on.
O that is so pretty. Almost a carmel edge to the wing feathers. WOW!
I had to wait 2 years before the man who owns these would even let me have a pair. But i kept asking and this summer he said okay if you will trade me a pair of brown winged one's.
as always harm u have very beautiful birds!
well yesterday my red/white babies fineally came in and were even later yet comeing in and the usps lost them but they r fine and settling in nicely to their new home. i'm so thankful they made it here in one piece and safely. i think these r a little younger. they r a little smaller than the other 4 and a little flighty so i will have to work with them. right now i'm just letting them get used to the house and the noises of the cockatiels. i don't want to stress them after all they been through the last few days to get here. they r npa banded? i think that is what they r is that a good thing and what does it mean? both of them have them and r 08.
i noticed last night that lexi is sitting more and they now r full time sitting on the nest takeing turns between her and topaz. so last night while lexi was on it i snuck my hand under her to check and she was fine with it and she laid her second egg yesterday!!!
so how long before the babies hatch?? this is gonna be a long wait isn't it,lol. i have seen 16-21 days so i don't know when they should be here. i want to mark it on the calander so i can keep track of hatch dates and cycles that way i don't have them continually laying and setting.
Silkie it's 18 days on the pigeons hatching and mine have always been pretty acurate on the hatching date.
NPR National Pigeon Association and the number is thier birth year.
As far as controling their hatching and setting they will breed and set no matter what you do. They will lay eggs on the bottom if they have too or in the feed cup. The only way to control this is if you seperate the sex's then the female may still lay and set. I had 2 females together and they both laid eggs on the cage bottom and were setting.
