Its cool.

I found it on the test forum. Go there and you can find a lot of things. Don't know how to make a link yet, sorry.

I'll find it.

Yes, you did and I went looking and found all kind of fun things. It's different with a laptop though. I had to experiment.

Sofer, I am sure that DW has been through all sorts of alternative therapies - but has she considered going for counciling/psychotherapy. I have done work with some medical practioneers who send their patients on to me to work with the depression of diagnosis - It does seem to make a difference. there is a real mourning process that goes with the loss of our youthful bodies, nothing feels quite so traitorous. Might be worth considering.

One of the practioners I've worked closely with is a Pilates instructor, and I'm wondering if we have a pilates instructor on the thread. It might be worth talking to someone about it. Pilates works on using the muscular structure to support the skeletal - it was designed originally for working with war victims. I wonder if Karen would find it useful. Low impact, very low skeletal stress. I would suggest studio rather than floor Pilates.

Really sorry to hear that she is suffering.

Laurie, I used studio pilates after I had a skiing accident (a stoned skier ran me down) and consequent hip surgery. It was too soon to go back to yoga so my surgeon suggested pilates and it was extremely helpful. I had surgery in January and was back on skis the following December. Granted I was a ski instructor in college - many many moons ago - so I'm sure that helped. However, I credit the pilates with regaining muscle strength and keeping me from repeat injury. Skiing very much involves "core" strength and that is the essence of pilates. Great suggestion for anyone with arthritis of any kind.....and it's fun on the cool sliding bed!

Hey everyone. . . belated Thanksgiving wishes to all. I hope everyone had a wonderful time with family and friends and recalled the reasons we each have to be thankful. For those who listen to NPR, disregard because you're already aware but for those who don't, they're trying to start a new tradition. The day after Thanksgiving will be called the National Day of Listening. It's a day during which you should sit down and "interview" someone in your life and have them tell you something about them you did not know. Some great examples can be found at http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=97335756. I think it's a marvelous way to cap off family time.

Happy Thanksgivingtime to All!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Hi Sheri, long time no hear LOL how are you? still real busy?
I think that would be a great Idea. If only those crazy people that shop on Black Friday. I swear they are nuts and so are the retailer's that make it that way. Its so sad what happened to a clerk in a New York
Walmart. Makes me wonder about people.

Port Orchard, WA(Zone 8a)

Tils, I never thought I'd do it, but I got up at 5am, and got in line at Staples, so I could save $80 on a Tom Tom. then I saw that I could get it for less at car toys. I'm budgeting for Xmas this year. my mutual funds took a big hit. so I'll be buying less, Jim

Eugene, OR

I couldn't believe it when I heard about that Walmart incident, how can people be so greedy that they don't know what's going on under their own feet? Had to go grocery shopping today and skirted around the malls to avoid the traffic, drivers are crazy too.

One of our local senior centers offers a class where they help people do a video of their lives. A lot of people want to leave their story behind, but aren't sure how to go about it. The interviews sound like a great idea.

I think most everyone is in the same boat, Jim. I know we are.

OHHHHHHHHHHH - please, #*&, no national day of listening!!!!! Give me a break!!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Sorry You guys, but this is a real defunk in my own opinion, I have been in retail for 40 years, And the companies will do any any trick in the book to get you in on a good buy, but the funny part is, if you are not in the line for the the best buy, at the right place for the cheapest price. and don't do your homework. You may be at the wrong place, as to who has this and what time and when to been there and how had the best price. And then their are people who, for some reason can not read what the ad says. This time to this time, then if its still in stock and has gone back to its normal price, they still think they can get it for the price advertise, I say no sorry and have a fight on my hands, they want to see a manager, I say I am the manager, you still want to fight about it Here's Corp. # I'm sorry nothing I can do, done, have a nice day.
Or you get these people that think, there is more in the backroom, will you go look? I say there is none sold out, They say 'How do you Know'?
It's a battle no matter what you do.

Jim, I hope you got what you wanted, sorry for the dramatics, but that is reality for me.

Eugene, OR

I have nothing but the highest respect for people who have to put up with ignorant shoppers. I don't do Black Friday. Maybe if there was something I really wanted and thought it was possible to actually get one, I might try. But as for camping out at the store to be the first in line, no way. Didn't do it when I was younger either. The stores advertise such good deals, but if the fine print says "limited quantities" I won't be there. It usually means there were two and they were sold before the doors opened. I have a friend who goes with her grown daughter and they make a day out of it, they've done it for years and have a grand time. But their fun comes from the outing not the shopping. Black Friday is my day to relax after Turkey Day and I take full advantage^_^

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I'm with you Sally, I have never parked on a retailers door step, would never do that ( course I'm working, can't do it anyway) And yes their are limited Qs. Could be 3 or 8. Or maybe none, if it was not shipped and came in as a case of noodles that the lable was wrong, which means we don't have it.
Got to go nite nite, been a tough day.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

I worked all day but at the end of the day I went to the Bellevue Goodwill. Everything was 40% off so I got 5 short sleeve, and 6 long sleeve NICE shirts for work and a couple of pants for only 62 bucks. I will have more money to buy low priced stocks today. LOL I too stay away from Black Friday cause it is always a day of work in the vet business dealing with all the turkey dogs.

Vashon, WA(Zone 8b)

Uh oh. Are dogs not supposed to eat turkey? I did give mine some small pieces. no bones, because we were all out of his biscuit treats and the grocery store is not open on Thanksgiving Day here on Vashon (which in my opinion is a good thing).

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

I've always given my dogs turkey and never had a problem. They don't throw it out either end.^_^

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Perhaps the problem is people giving their dogs cooked turkey bones. They splinter, unlike raw bones. My dogs eat raw meat & raw, uncooked bones daily. I've been feeding my animals like this for over 25 years, without problems.
However, changing the diet suddenly can cause extreme gastric distress - not pretty for anyone, especially the furbaby!

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

Katye, I feel raw also. Are you part of the WAzzuOR raw co-op here in this area? If not, where do you get your food? Always interested in new suppliers!

(Judi)Portland, OR

I've never done Black Friday either. Sure there are things I would like to get at reduced prices but the sight of all those people grabbing greedily and pushing each other about is kind of repulsive to me. If you spend some time in a Third World country like Kenya you realize that all those bargains piled up on tables are really stuff that we don't need, and in a few weeks won't care about, it changes your perspective. I am not a miser and do spend money for things that I really like and will last for years. This year I had a large crowd for Thanksgiving and replaced all my wine glasses and enjoyed making the table beautiful. Those glasses will bring back memories for years, even though a few will get broken, probably at Christmas!
The folks who work in retail during the holidays have my sincere respect - and wishes for a safe season.
Foggy and cold here in Portland today. The family members have all departed and even though I love them all it is a good day to sit by the fire and enjoy the quiet. Ahhhhh.

Port Orchard, WA(Zone 8a)

Tils, when Staples opened their doors at 6 am we all hurried in, ( a polite way to say ran, pushed, shoved ) just kidding everyone was polite. but several were asking about the Tom Tom and we were directed to aisle 9, not there, then we were directed to aisle 14, not there, then we were directed to the all things related electronics desk that were helping people with their orders or so we thought. then the guy in charge said we should go to the cash out line and they would give us our Tom Tom's at the register. before they opened they were passing out the coupons for the items we were there for. so I didn't miss out by being lost. I kind of felt like Moses in the desert looking for the promised land. I can't say I'll never do it again. ( it did bring back memories of the Easter Egg hunts of my childhood. ) if the price is right. but I could have ordered on line the same price as I paid. if I had bothered to look it up. Jim

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Jim, that's impressive. I would have left after aisle 9! I bet it felt good to be rewarded for persistence, though.

I did a Black Friday stint exactly once. I was stunned at how rude people were, and my blood boiled over when they took it out on the folks working the registers. I have extreme issues with rude people doing so in public: I'm not one to shy away from addressing their idiotic behavior, and like most folks, I prefer not to be subjected to adult tantrums.
Never have been able to figure out what this type expected to accomplish...

Gwendalou - I don't belong to any co-op and didn't know there was one. I do all prep & processing (chicken and beef), plus veggies that we eat. The dogs cruise the vegetable garden during the growing season, and the orchard is almost a destination resort for them!
I started feeding this way upon advice from my Vet: cat diagnosed with cancer at 9 months. Saw major improvements, and never looked back. Cat lived 21 years...

(Judi)Portland, OR

Jim - What is a Tom Tom?

I've been feeding my 2 cats dry cat food for many years. Pet Promise Natural, recommended by my vet when I lived in San Francisco. The cats are 14 & 15 years old. I hope I am doing the right thing! They are healthy and active. One of them had an asthma like condition that lasted for about a month and was on steroids but is now symptom free. I hope they live 21 years like your cat, Katye!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Jim, I have found that the people on the Peninsula, are so much kinder and different than those the city. I don't mean all of the people, just most. I have worked in the city for 2 years now. Have seen a big difference in people.

Sally. I think a Tom Tom is one of those, directional thingys you put in your car. so you can find out where you are going.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

I always work on black friday so I can't but what if we all went in and held the door open with a smile and helped people become human again.
