They played very nicely for a while, though I could tell it was a strain for Bully not to climb anything.
The Boys arrive in Toronto
Loving your photos, Marilyn. They are showing up just fine for me. The Boys seem to be enjoying the sites and sounds of lovely Toronto. What a beautiful Conservatory! I can see why they choose it for weddings. Oh, the flowers!! I could get lost in there for hours! Such a treat for all of us to see this time of year. I really envy the boys, as Toronto is my Birthplace, but since we moved west when I was just 4 years old, I don't remember it and have never visited the City since. Hopefully some day.
I found the story of Alexander Muir and the Maple Leaf Forever song so interesting and since I must live under a rock, I was unfamiliar with the song, decided that I must Google it. Here is the Wikipedia article about it. Fascinating...

I have to admit, I do prefer the revised version, but that's just me.
Hi Don:
Strange that you didn't learn that song in school. We certainly did, and just the original version - without even the lily.
The 1997 version is very nice though, and certainly expresses well the current Canadian situation.
Now off to see if I can post those missing pictures.
Lovely!
Did I mention how many decades ago that might have been. :) Maybe they didn't have it as part of the curriculum in the 1950's. Or maybe I was just not the most conscientous student... to put it nicely :D But it only goes to show, it's never too late to learn, and I thank you for that. Great Tour!
Bye-bye!! The boys peek out of their bag for their last look at the Conservatory and greenhouses.
Tomorrow I'm booked to take my grand daughter to a movie and shopping for her birthday, then out to eat and maybe home to bake something, so not likely any more photos.
I really wish I'd had more time and better weather, since there was so much I'd wanted to share with those of you who've never been her.
I have so much appreciated and enjoyed what the rest of you have shared, and looking forward to seeing more new places soon.
Marilyn, what a GREAT job with the Lads and the pics .. Allan Gardens is really lovely.
Glad you've had a fun time with them .. and enjoy your day with your grandaughter ^_^

Marilyn, well, I think I enjoyed that tour every bit as much as the boys did! (60 or 80 gnome-feet ROFLMBO!!) What a great idea to take them to a place where they could run free and tucker them out *wink*. When they visited me I remember being in awe that a moose (even a mini-moose) could climb the likes of Bullwinkle! And Jerome is finally coming out of his shell ? "Whoo-hoo?" Too funny!
We used to live in Toronto for a short period of time back in the early 80's and had no idea of any of the places you took the boys to see. Allan Gardens is beautiful.
That was a very interesting tid-bit about the song 'Maple Leaf Forever'. I didn't learn that song in school at all - although I wasn't in Canada for all the elementary grades - but my DH (same age) said they didn't learn it either. In fact, I don't think I've even heard the song that much because it's not very familiar to me. I do, however, remember singing Oh Canada every morning. That would be Grade 4-ish, Calgary, late 60's. I wonder if it was a regional thing?
Sandy
I have to admit that "The Maple Leaf Forever" is not a song that DH or myself have ever heard. We have lived in Ontario all our lives. I feel unpatriotic:(
I read the lyrics and they don't tweek anything in either of our memories. This gettin' old is for the birds!
Have fun with the lads. I am still working on their earmuffs but Otis had decided he wanted to relocate them in his hidey pile. I found one of the earmuffs outside in his pile. Gonna have to keep a close eye on my rascal pup.

Well .. I am in the minority it seems .. but only because of my MoM .. she was the singer with the Canadian Daughters League in the 50/60s and on .. even though she was as 'Irish as Paddy's Pig' ^-^ She would practice her songs before the meetings .. and .. 'The Maple Leaf Forever' was one of them .. so .. from a young young age I knew the song and its lyrics.
However .. I think that perhaps I didn't really ever sing it in school until High school .. I spent a year in Branksome Hall and never sang it there either LoL ..
I'm sure the Boys have made us put our thinking caps on ^_^

where are they, enroute, to where, to whom..so exciting..
They should be on their way to lil ole Havelock.
Getting the guestroom ready for them..I hope they come back from Havelock with a full set of teeth as their aren't too many in Havelock that have more that 3 LOL
Some people drive lawn tractors for transportation.............Need I say more.
Eagerly waiting

Hi folks,
I just got back from a quick trip to Germany and my the lads have been busy. I really enjoyed seeing all their activities. Also enjoyed the Maple Leaf Forever story. I didn't grow up in Canada; so didn't know it, but way back in 1970-71 I was teaching elementary school vocal music (way back in the days when they had a teacher for every school) and I did a unit on Canadian Patriotic and Folk songs and I taught it to the kids in my school.

Thanks for the super photo's. It brings back memories of spring. I like the tease of plants and nice weather!.
Now I'm looking forward to the next season.

I have been following your threads about the adventures with the lads now for about a month. I am not Canadian, but I am enjoying their travels and the humor invoked in these threads! How did this all get started? Do you think the lads would like to come to the US for a tour here?
Mainiac - So happy to hear that you are enjoying the lad's travel. I signed on as a hostess quite a while ago. I'm sure that others who are following there adventure would be able to tell you what their itinerary is and how this began. I believe they started in Vancouver. Can anyone answer Maniac's question?
I am waiting for them to arrive in lil' ole Havelock. I will continue to post their adventures when they arrive here. I am all aflutter with anticipation. I have a bit of a schedule planned for them. If the people in Havelock don't think I'm a little goofy yet, they will by the time the boys leave here. Oh well. It is about time that they saw the real me anyway. I am honoured the have them stay with me for a while.
Will keep ya posted.
Hugs Elaine and Otis
No gnomes or Bullwinkle yet. Where, oh where have those lads gotten to? They must be up to something interesting.
I have made ear muffs and scarves for them. May make them some hats today if I feel up to it. May just push myself and do it anyway. I have been looking at pictures of them trying to figure out just how big their heads are.
Will post when they finally get to Havelock.
Hugs Elaine and Otis
Elaine .. no doubt the lads had a WILD WEEKEND somewhere and will arrive in Havelock in need of a rest LoL
Diggin back in my ever decreasing memory bank here .. I THINK the 'Adventure' might have started on the Island in BC .. and with Glenda .. all conjecture right now .. but .. once the adventure started and the travels progressed .. the pics and stories have become anticipated and enjoyed ^_^
All the participants (and vicarious participants) deserve a pat on the back for sticking with the Boys and 'rooting them on' as they sojourn across Canada.
Good luck with their visit Elaine .. I know they'll love the ear muffs and scarves .. and if you get the hats made .. it'll be like a pre Xmas gift for them !!
~M~
Marilynne - you're right about the start of their adventures. It was early July. Among the first pics were when I met up with Glenda at the Butchart Gardens near Victoria on July 8 as I was with a conference group visiting Victoria and the Gardens. They then were circulated around others on Vancouver Island before going to Vancouver. Unfortunately, after they got into a bit of trouble in Vancouver, the two early threads were yanked and it took awhile for them to reach Ann in Edmonton.
Ann
:-) Thanks Ann .. chalk one up for my 'rememberer' not being completely out of service ^_^

The lads have arrived in Havelock^_^. Boy are they tired and whiney. I gave them a cup of hot chocolate and tucked them into bed. I'm sure after a good rest, they'll be refreshed. They need to rest up for their tour of Havelock tomorrow. I'm going to have to be creative. After all, everything is two blocks away from us. LOL.
I am going to try and start and new thread and put up a hyperlink. I will see if I am successful.
