Quarantine pond in basement - opinions?

Bravo! Thank you for stepping in. I don't know a lot about these UV's as I don't own one.

They are the ultimate in eliminating green water algae.

Ewww, I could never let 2 years worth of junk accumulate! I get out the siphon when I see just a few koi poopies on the bottom of the tank! I let it go for 10 days and partially blame that for losing Katrina and Piggy last week.

Yesterday one of my heaters arrived (I ended up having to order 2 500-watt heaters intead of one 1,000 watt because the 1,000 watt tends to short out and the company I ordered from reccomended going the dual 500-watt route - I really appreciated the extra customer service, they called me on Sunday to suggest that - plus it saved me $58!). I put it in the tank and plugged it in and even just the 500 watt set at 70 degrees raised the tank heat from 60 to 67 by this morning. I'm really impressed, although that is faster than I wanted to raise the temperature, I wanted to raise it only 2-3 degrees a day, but the lowest setting on the heater is 70 so that is what I set it to. The koi were happy and active - I think they appreciate the warmer temperature. I did a partial water change yesterday too while I had the net off the pond. I added more of the Bio-Booster as per the manufacturer's directions. I will turn the UV back on this weekend, since it sounds like there is not benefit to leaving it off for more than a few days.

Koi love warm water. Watch 'em grow now!
