I got several pictures/misses of this butterfly at the Magic Kingdom, Disney World while riding a train - (that was tough!) this is the best one and I will crop it to fit the file on it. Also I know this is Bugfiles but can anyone id the flower it is on? It's not that important but just to possible add info on it as a nectar source for this species.
CLOSED: CLOSED: Is this a zebra butterfly for sure?
This is the only other picture I could Id with the butterfly in it. It is flying and is about 1/2 of the way to the upper middle of the picture from the upper left corner. Another picture I had was in a different location and much closer but it was blurry as it maybe was flapping its wings while I took the shot. I saw a single julia but didn't get a picture of it - and another group of pictures turn out poorly of zebra with a hummingbird feeding on a bush (I can't see anything on the pictures) just off the main path (there were another path but it was barred to the public so it was quieter but I had to take long distance aims with my digital camera) . There were monarch butterflies but that's pretty much it for Disney World butterflies (I bet there are more around Fla gardens!)
Yep..That's a Zebra Longwing Butterfly-our official state butterfly. There is a mixture of plants in your photo. I think the critter is on/near a Lantana flower.
Good - for some reason I kept forgotting the name of the flower even thought I usually plant it as a annual here in Minnesota - I have seen tiger swallowtail nectar it once late summer this year - I kept thinking about verbena even thought I know it's wrong! Thanks for the confirmation.
Verbena isn't wrong. Lantanas are in the Verbenaceae family and some are referred to as Verbenas.
