I've got a lot of Parsley growing... grew it for the caterpillars ... where are the seeds?
I have a regular/plain 'ole parsley and some "curly" but I have no idea how to collect the seeds. I know there has to be some - because i grew them by seeds.
Parsley ?
Parsley is a biennial so if this is its first year you won't see any seeds on it until next season. At that point it will starting getting leaves with a different look to them and you'll know that the flower stalks are on their way.
Here I just leave mine out over the winter (especially the curlies which seem hardier than the flat leaf varieties I've so far grown), but in colder areas the plants need to be heavily mulched to survive the winter and in particularly cold areas they actually need to be dug up and stored for the winter then planted back outside at the start of the next season to get them to go to flower.

OH ugg.... i'm not willing to dig them up and store them... too much work.
I should at least bring some in to dry.
Oh well. Guess I need more seeds.
tcs, I live in 5b zone and just leave my parsley out in the garden all winter. I do cut it back & dry and freeze some of the leaves for winter use. In the Spring, last year's plant grows again and then goes to seed, which I collect. Then the plant dies. I also plant new parley which I start indoors from last year's seed.
So, try leaving some plants over winter & see what happens next Spring. You will need to start some new seeds in the Spring for a summer crop.
I hope this makes sense.

Thanks Rose... where i have mine... in my rose bush bed, it's close to the foundation and sorta has that micro-climate effect. So i guess i'll hope for the best.
tcs: I'm in zone 4b, I don't make any effort to overwinter the parsley, and every year I have a few stray plants that come up from the previous year. I think yours might survive.
My parsley is flowering now, but I do not know what the seed is (going to be) . Will it be the same as by fenchel and dill?
My Italian flat leaf parsley winters over just fine and self sows like a bandit.
Jonna, yes, parsley seed production is basically the same as for celery, carrots, dill, chervil, coriander, fennel and parsnips so if you've successfully saved seeds from any of those plant types you won't have any problems at all with parsley.

Thanks Amanda
