All summer long my Heavenly Blue (American Seed) morning glories have flowered profusely on a fence in full Texas sun. However, no seed pods formed. I am also growing another variety, Crimson Rambler (Ferry Morse), that produced LOTS of nice seed in a 3/4 sun location about 100ft away from Heavenly Blue. Does anyone know why my Heavenly Blue will not form seed pods? Thanks.
No seed pods on Heavenly Blue
Heavenly Blue is a tri-color and they set seeds later than some other types.
When the temps start cooling down, you should see pods forming.

aardvark -- i posted the same question a few weeks ago....
considering our zone difference... you should get some seeds.
My HB's have all been pulled already - and i did manage to find a few more seed pods that are drying on my window sill.
In comparison, the amount of seeds i get from HB is piddly compared to my other MG's -- where i get literally hundreds of seeds ... I maybe got a measly 65 seeds from HB.
Good luck and happy hunting
Terese
Apparently I was prematurely concerned - I see the pods are beginning to form. With the weather being so warm I guess they just weren't ready yet. (I can see that the pods are also shaped differently than the crimson rambler pods, more oval almost pointed at the end as opposed to round.)
When I found the seed pods forming, I also found another surprise - two, what I beleive to be, pink-spotted hawk moth caterpillars happily chomping away at my vines. They are ~4 1/2 inches long and diameter is about that of my thumb! I went back and forth, seed or caterpillars, and finally decided that the caterpillars look full grown and ready to pupate so I'll leave them alone and hopefully both seed and caterpillars will be fine.
Thanks for the feedback guys - I've learned alot about my HB MGs and the virtue of patience. ;)
aard -- a few days ago, i took a photo of my last bit of seeds, and including the seed pod.... yes, it is not round like most the ones i've seen, but comes to a point at the bottom. [oh -- i posted the image in PlantFiles for HB]
It came in handy last year when i had 2 different MG's in the same area, and they became intertwined.
Nice lookin' Cat ... I wish we had more up here.
Oooh! Your pink-spotted hawk moth caterpillars are nice looking cats!!!! Glad you decided to let the cats be to become beautiful moths! :-)
