Show Us your Bird Feeders, Vol. 9

Chickadees would be nice too.

Marilynbeth, I do have the the Finch Screen feeder besides the Perky Pet Upside Down feeder, which is the one the seeds fall out of. I will checkout some of the others. Thanks for the time and effort!

Good idea re: using the suet feeder for whole peanuts! I'll have to try that.

I get my peanuts from my local Wild Bird Center. They are un-roasted.
You know how the squirrels bury stuff? I've been surprised in the Spring with Peanut Plants! The 1st time this happened (in 2007) I actually had a peanut harvest. A grand total of 14 peanuts! LOL!
It was so cool!
This year, I only harvested 2. It's a nice plant - with pretty yellow flowers.

The cardinals use my platform feeder a lot.
Usually one will be on the platform while its mate keeps watch from a tree. Then they'll switch places.
Every once in a while one will be on the platform while its mate is on the ground below. The one above will drop seeds over the side.
It's so cute.

my 2 best feeders have finally seen their last days. I have looked and looked and I just cannot afford a anew feeder. I would Have to have one with the wire around it to prevent squirrels, cause I have so many trees + a brick house that they can jump onto a feeder, now matter what i try to rig up. I miss the birds so much. Sitting at home all day, that is what has been one of my biggest sources of joy for many winters since on disability. I do have a suet feeder in front of my picture window and Niger seed sock, but oh how I miss the cardinals and others that need larger feeders. Hopefully a sale will come along someplace soon. I had 2 very expensive (well by my standards) feeders that are Hyde and WBU got the plastic inserts for me one time after the weather had cracked them, etc, but apparently Hyde has been sold and so now nobody knows how to replace the seed holding plastic inserts. Grrr, too cause I hate to just have to ditch the wire squirrel proof "shells", but without the inserts they are no good.
I just have to count my blessings, at least I can feed myself and my pets....I could feed the birds too if I could just get some good feeders again.
Thanks for letting me blow off this steam. Another thing is S&H....heck, even if something is a good price, by the time ya pay shipping......oh well, I'm sure everyone knows what I am talking about and the saddest thing is that is probably isn't going to get any better.......hmmmmmmmmmm.that's me starting to whistle (or hum) a happy tune to change my mood. ;-) Hugs, Sher

Birdie, if I were on a budget, I'd just get a cheap hanging platform feeder with a baffle. Those baffles have been working great for me; and you can make a platform feeder out of lots of things (plastic lids, pieces of wood, etc.). Most of my birds prefer the platform feeders anyway!

Birdie,

Have you checked the Tractor Supply stores in your area? I just added your city and state (Winston Salem, NC) to their store directory and got this list of their stores for your area.

http://www.tractorsupply.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StoreLocatorSearchAndResultsView

I was there last week on Dec. 18 and they had feeders 20 percent off. I don't know how long the sale was good for, but I've found some of my feeders there and they were less than other places.

Just thought I'd mention it to you.

(I know we're onto the Vol, 10 http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/934041/ but I'd thought I'd respond to Birdie right below her posting)

:-) Marilyn
