This was just about 3 mm in length. Quick flier. Which is this?
CLOSED: Tiny black-orange flying insect
This beetle appears to be in the family Chrysomelidae (leaf beetles). If the hind femora are enlarged (cannot be seen in this image), it might be a flea beetle - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Flea_beetle.jpg

The picture in the link you have provided has been taken in a park 90 miles from Mysore... and this fellow looks very very close to that one! Oh, you should have seen how shiny that black wings were!
I agree with suunto. It's a flea beetle (genus Aphthona).
