We found this spider while walking on a trail in the woods. He was rather cold and let us put him on a stick and carry him around. Can anyone identify this spider... he is bright orange even though the picture doesn't show it

CLOSED: Orange spider found in Upstate New York Swampy Woods
This is an orb-weaving spider (family Araneidae) in the genus Araneus; most likely a marbled orb weaver (Araneus marmoreus). This species is highly variable both in background color and pattern - see http://www.spiderzrule.com/orbweaver1.htm for some examples.
