Great haul you got there!
Just a little correction.. That's Mac's Southern Springtime, not Ma's.

Hi Mrsbonnie,
I d-mailed you about the strep you plan to send to me tomorrow. I still can't figure out how to pay you for it. I saw the e-mail site but don't know how to send it to it. Can you explain to me?
You will love Ma's taffy swirl. I was just telling mine today that I think she is my favorite. Orange Peoke (?) is gorgeous too. I also have Gillian, Pierre somebody,
frozen in time, several other varieties that I would have to look for the name. I love always having a flower in bloom.
If you aren't comfortable sending the strep I understand. If you send a return address I will send a check. And I promise it won't bounce.
Good night

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

Hi there;
I meant to answer your email & just forgot. yes you can send a check, that would be fine.ma's taffy swirl is so pretty, also so unusal, as it's a sport. it has 4 different color flowers on it.really neat.I usually do't buy the standards as they get so big, but could'ent resist this one.^_^

Sounds like you had a great time at your show/sale.Did you enter anything? How cool having Gary come.I've seen his website.He has alot of great stuff.

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

Hi Jan;
I am sure that is the plant, but i have not seen it bloom yet.i just sentt your box out & did put a couple leaves along with everything else. it's always great to see gary as he carries such a nice collection of plants.i did not enter anything in this show as if it had blooms it was not symetricial. maybe next time.i really like the gessie shows better as of course there is more variety,

Wow, Bonnie ... what nice plants you got at the show! I love that one called Ma's Taffy Swirl! She is a beauty!

I like Arctic Fox too ... I had one called Arctic Frost once that was one of my favorites, had to go to the AVSA site to look at it to remember what it looked like: http://www.avsa.org/Photographs/ArcticFrostLrg.jpg#http://../Photographs/ArcticFrostLrg.jpg%23

Some day I hope I get to go to a show somewhere!

Hi MrsBonnie,

I am not sure what a sport is. My Ma's Taffy swirl is pink with purple tiny dots. But she is beautiful. Lovely varigated foliage and she stays neat and compact. She looks like the picture on Rob's violet barn (that is where I got her) I hope it is o.k. to say the name?
I have had some that have a totally different color flower amid the other blooms. I just thought that it was some kind of cross pollinating of the plants due to having so many different varietys grouped together.

Eagle, ID

Ma's country springtime is also very lovely. I am trying to find a red AV. Any recommendations?

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

i am not that good with av's, i have more gessies than av & most of my av's are mini.but ma's tafy swirl the new one i just got is just so cool with all different color flowers on it.
plantlady, there is a lady that sells av's in new smyrna at the farmers market along with alot of nice other plants on sunday, you might want to try it.

Bonnie, your kidding? Uh oh ... I might be in trouble, I think I might have to visit the New Smyrna Beach Farmers Market next weekend! Just need to do some research to find out where it's held ... I didn't even know they had one!

Welcome, rustywoman! I think it's okay to mention the name of a company we've done business with, I know I've talked about where I've purchased plants before and so have manyothers. We all talk about Rob's and Bluebird Greenhouse and Gary's and Belisle's, Cape Cod Violetry, Dave's etc. And, I've heard mention of Cedar Creek, Lyndon Lyon's, Travis' ... the list goes on and on.

I hope there's not anything against DG policy about mentioning where we've bought plants. I will have to go searching the site to check the acceptable use policy and hopefully I haven't done something wrong about mentioning those names. I've seen on other forums where folks mention names of places all the time and there are co-op's where of course the company name is mentioned. I know we aren't supposed to self-promote if we are a business, that is a big no-no trying to drum up business for your own company but I can't imagine it's against rules to mention a company we've purchased from. I will come back and post what I find out about the rules on that.

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

Linda;
it's been awhile since i was there, but it was held on the main street in smyrna by the park,where you get your license plates. but check anyway, maybe they moved it.

(Zone 1)

Bonnie, I called and found out it is located on St. Road 44 (Canal Street) in New Smyrna Beach! Canal Street is one that runs east/west across the intracoastal waterway to the beachside. I have shopped on Canal Street many times with a friend of mine ... never knew they even had a farmers market though! I might just have to take a drive over there this Sunday to see if the plant lady is there!

Thanks for telling me about it!

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

well i figured they moved it. but sr 44 is right off of 95, should be pretty easy to find.

(Zone 1)

Oh, I know New Smyrna Beach well. I know exactly where State Road 44/Canal Street is located ... a main thoroughfare!

Thank you Bonnie!

Hello Mrsbonnie and a BIG thank you! My strep came today. I was sooo happy to see her and she is all settled in. Now to keep her alive!!! Sh has a wick(?) coming from the bottom, I have never used one before. How do I water her? Should I "dome" her? We are pretty dry here.
I will have the check in the mail today and would like to reciprocate sometime. I only have AV's and the standard but if I can grow this sweet strep then I will be addicted and get more...and more... and share with you.
Ok now I feel like a mama hen with her chicks.

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

Hi There;
So glad the plant made it to you, never doubted it. lol. yes i wick my plants, & you can too if you like, just
get a plastic container & make a hole in it to stick the wick in. Thats it. ot pull it out & water however you like. Good luck with it, should be ok. at least you have a chance with one thats a decent size.

Check the plant name again, it should be Mac's Southern Springtime. (not Ma's) You have some pretty ones! It's hard to choose just a couple when there are so many beautiful plants isn't it! tish

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

you are right , it's mac's. du. thank yes it's very hard to choose.but caqn't have them all.lol

MrsBonnie,

I am not sure if I am doing right by the Strep you sent to me. After reading some threads and hearing about "doming" I put a freezer size ziplock bag over it to help keep humidity in. It looked fine in there but then last night I took it off (because I wasn't sure if I wa supposed to put it on in the first place) So.. this morning she looked wilty. So... I put it back on! She has perked up again.
Can you tell me how long I might need to leave the bag on her. Should I just take off the bag every few days and see if she has adjusted? You have quite a bit of humidity out there in IL don't you? I grew up out there and I know we did. Out here it is dry, dry, dry.
Should I mist her? Will she mind her leaves getting wet? I know that AV's are not supposed to have wet leaves. I am just a bit confused. I want my strep to live.

Williston, ND

keep it in the bag awhile few (weeks) the open the bag and let it adjust that way,when you open the bag and after a few days it hasnt drooped,then you can probally take it out
streps dont mind being sprayed

Thank you bigoldbuck!

I really appreciate having that information. It isn't easy to find out how to care for the streps, I have searched quite a bit and come up with bits and pieces. I work full time, Hubby, kids, food, house, yard... I have limited time to search. So... thank you for taking the time to respond to me.
