I left my house 4 and a half hours ago and at that time there was nobody talking now i'm back 4 and a half hours later and exspected my thread watcher to be lit up like a christmas tree and there were only 2.
Well maybe this is a good sign that all the chicken folks are content and have no complaints^_^
Where is everybody?
Hey Harmony. Sorry you went a while without the love. As a chicken/livestock wannabe interloper, I hope you had a great day.
Laurel
Yes Laurel and i love cleveland and the helen area i plan several trips in that direction several times a year just can't get enough of that mountain air.
Do you know wildcat creek we go trout fishing and camping there it's close to where laprades use to be.
I'm headed up that way this sunday for my aniversary going to the J&J flea market then on up towards helen and other places got to get some boiled peanuts.
Today was separate big stock from banties(my banties get the really good insulated coupe). Insulating coupes and adding winter bedding and removing old bedding. The cold weather came way to fast here. Now I'm having to hit it hard to get everything winter ready. I also bought a pair of Mandarin ducks, so getting their permanent place set up and trying to find heaters for their pond. I am giving up my ornamental pond and making it for the ducks and koi. Thats where I have been today.
George
I just love those diamond doves. I am going to a poultry swap tomorrow. I would love it if there is a pair there.
im here lol
Oh Manderin ducks are "Beautiful" and the weather is getting colder here too and we usually don't really get cold until january.
I have been dealin with pox and thought i had more time to get myself ready but i found myself out yesterday putting up wind break cloth to protect mine from the chilly wind.
I will be wishing hard for you to find a pair of diamonds i need someone to share info with and of course pics.
Hello lucky good to hear from you how are your chicks?
I got some Diamond Doves and found out they originated from australia are they wild there?
Oh, we almost could have met Harmony. I have to run to Atlanta tomorrow and will be back up here Sunday afternoon. Don't know exactly when (will you be here?). We were up at the Tallulah river a little more than a week ago collecting river rocks to mark perennials. I had posted on another thread that the Coleman (which empties into Tallulah) is open for brown trout. Lots of folks trout fishing the stocked game at Tallulah.
What is like LaPrades in the world? After forty years, nothing, I think.
Laurel
AH! the Tallulah gorge been going there since i was a kid my husband has allways wanted to fish at the bottom of the falls.
I just love the north ga. mountains i spent my honeymoon up in helen and almost all my aniversarys.
27 years and i never get tired of walking in those cold rocky creeks and catchin some good old trout and havein them for supper while you sittin in front of a camp fire and watchin the sparks fly up into a star filled sky and not hearin nothing but the creek running and thats the best food you have ever had and so is the sleep. Just ain't nothin like it!!
Oh wow I could so go for a night in the tent there. That is calming. Thanks I needed that.
Your welcome Luvs we have so much fun there and you do so much in the day your bone tired but that camp fire and the quiet you just have to stay up and drink it all in.
I have a funny story to tell.....Well i was fishing on the bank of the creek and i hooked a trout and it went under a rock and i was hung i was determined to get my trout so off the bank and into the water i went.............Got to the spot where it was hung and got it loose and turned to go back and those rocks are really slick a few steps and woooooooops down i went.
I was looking up and there stood my DH howling with laughter i was mad till he said you look so funny sitting flat of your butt in the creek and holding up that fish.......Sure enough i was soaked and sore and flat on my butt with water up to my chest but that fish held high in the air was bone dry
my chicks are good i have some hatching now but i dont know if i get a commanders position because the chicken is hatching them
all is well here in LA (that's lower Alabama or UCLA ugliest corner of lower alabama)
sorry forgot to tell you. If I don't show up for a few days it's because I am swamped. I work a full time job, a part time job, run my egg business with the 175 layers, own a bed & breakfast, hava a husband, have 5 dogs and a cat and goldfish and like a really crazy person went back to school to finish my masters degree.
Whew InnBetween! That's a LOT on your plate! DH and I dream of running a B&B someday. You'll have to tell me how that works out for you. We just missed out on a historic building -- an old 1900 school house converted to a home -- that would have been PERFECT for our B&B.
We are setting up Maypop for cottage stays (a one family at a time B&B). Who needs a tent? Here's a pond pic of our little, half acre pond at Maypop.
Congrats on your chicks, Lucky. So there was a surrogate mom chicken...you're the one who will have to do all the work in the long haul.
Ahh, to be young and energetic, InnBetween. Will your Master's be from UCLA, Birdkley?
Laurel
Dont know where Newton, Al is but its a beautiful fall day here in Greensboro. (West Alabama). We had a little rain and for the first time (this year) the ground is almost wet. The dogs went out and don't want to come back in. They just love this weather.
Also. The peecans are starting to fall, so they don't want to miss out on that in case a squirrel shows up.
Well the "sucker of the chicken world" had to go to the most pathetic chicken swap today. There was only a few chicken vendors, but most were way over priced for the quality of birds. Then I stopped to look at some mixed banties. The vendor I think was mentally challenged. He had very healthy looking birds, but each had a story. One little top hat with no toes! (you would never know it. She walks great!) Another little top hat with toe nails 5 inches long. Then a little muffed girl. He was so happy I bought them he threw in a really pretty little mixed bantie rooster(I'm scared he is 1/2 game/1/2 bantie) and a pretty little red hen of I think the same lineage. 5.00. I took them all.
They are in isolation, but look and feel good weight and nice feathers. I think they just need some TLC. I felt a little guilty buying them so cheap, but they needed rescue! I don't think they have ever been on the ground. They went nuts on the grass and digging for worms in the ISO. pen. Oh yeah, I also got a piece of brush McCoy, BBQ pork rind, and a little Amish lady was selling peanut brittle and rocky road cakes(god they were good!) So fun day, neat little chickens and some stuff to make me fatter! Great day! Huh??
George
OH!!POO!! No Diamonds and i was so hopeing^_^
I know harmony! I have this really neat old Victorian birdcage I have had for a few years and have always thought the diamonds would look great in it. I guess I will have to wait until spring and hope the big southern ohio poultry swap meet has them. Sigh~~~
Okay i will just have to wait till spring to have a Diamond buddy {Sigh}
George-you're almost as bad a pushover as me!
You did good, kid :) And I don't know which I'm more jealous of - the brushed McCoy or the peanut brittle!

Hey Harmony, I posted a new thread with better pictures of my pigeons. I know they are not diamond doves....but you're my BPF!
OH!! I want the rocky road cake and a glass of buttermilk "Yummy"
I see the diamond doves on egg.bid from time to time. Have any of you ever ordered live birds through the mail. I have mail ordered eggs and chicks, but not adult birds. Any advice on this?? I really like to inspect what I'm buying.
George

Oh I see a get together in the future at the Inn. That would be fun.
VERY fun!

I always get called a Lady : (
Not entirely sure why, with the "daddy" clearly in the name. ha!
Thanks Ladies and Gents! I would welcome a poultry party at any time! We have had up to 50 for dinner and never felt crouded. We spend most of the day yesterday plowing and over seeding the chicken pastures with winter wheat and rye for winter. If the chickens don't eat all of the seed it should be pretty to have a splash of green in the winter and the chickens will have something green to eat all winter
Sir,George could you show a pic of your antique bird cage i love antiques and bird cages?
Sorry, Daddy'O. It's the "daylilly" part that always throws me off!
Is it REALLY that bad to be called a "lady"? I could think of worse ;)

Harmony, checking in on the thread. Our temps are plummeting tonight and will keep on going down for the next few days. DARN...end of summer garden. Ran to Atlanta to bring in the last of the orchids and then back to Maypop to pick the rest of the summer garden. I don't have chickens, but if I did, I'd be knitting sweaters. Maybe capes would fit better?lol Anything that flies (even badly) should probably have a cape.
Regarding the Tallulah...there is the gorge and then on up the road, the river. Different experience. Fantastic camping, beautiful river and great fishing (stocked). The Coleman, with native brown trout, empties there too. Serious fishing with no barbs allowed.
I've never heard of pasture chickens, Inn. Are they a herd of chickens? We overseed our little pasture with red clover. So beautiful in Spring.
I wish I was musical Notes. If you're out of tune there, I'd not know.
Laurel
