I found this spider on my tomato plants. I couldn't find any reference identifying it. Help! I took several pictures.
CLOSED: What kind of spider is this?
This is an orb-weaving spider (family Araneidae) in the genus Araneus; most likely Araneus trifolium, variously known as the shamrock or pumpkin spider. This species is extremely variable in coloration, from very pale to deep orange, usually with numerous paler markings on the abdomen. See http://www.cirrusimage.com/Arachnid/Shamrock_spider_1.jpg and http://www.coasttocoastam.com/timages/page/Spider101507a.jpg for a couple of examples.
