CLOSED: Interesting Spiderwhat is it???

Wake Forest, NC

Hello!
I have a beautiful spider that has been living on my Crape Myrtle for several months now. It is sitting on top of a huge "nest" of some sort. About 3 weeks ago there were hundreds of baby spiders inside but they all appear to have left the nest. This spider is very protective of her nest, as you approach, she comes out and hovers over it. The picture is as clear as I could get, she blends in very well. Does anyone know what kind of spider this is? I live in Wake Forest, North Carolina.
Thanks!

Lucky you! She looks like a green lynx.

They're fascinating aren't they? I never saw one in my Maine garden but I did follow the progress of other spiderlings. Thanks for posting this, it's really interesting to see the egg sac. Have you added the pic to Bug Files?
Best wishes

Hi Sue!

Hello Cara

First you can go to Bug Files

http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/

Then you can search for bugs. The entry for Green Lynx is here

http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/168/

Near the bottom of the page, click on Upload an Image of this Bug

When you click on browse you can enter the file on your computer and preview the image. It will then prompt you to add the image. You can do it with plants too.

That's the joy of DG for me, everyone around the world sharing what they see.

Enjoy your stay :)
