I have never raised pheasants but have read a number of books about people who raised them. Books by Iain Grahame could help you maybe and they are fun to read.
titles Flying feathers, Ruffled Feathers and Blood pheasant, a Himalayan adventure
They breed the rare Blood Pheasant
I got pigeons!!!!
We kept out baby pheasants off the ground just like our chickens until they grew up a bit then put them in their own pen with some branches and 'hiding" places on the ground. They tended to like to sit up off the ground most of the time.
There has been a lot of blood mixing with the pheasants. It is very looked down upon with serious breeders. It makes new colors, but the serious breeders say It's hard to find true blooded pheasants anymore.
Now I raised turkey's for one season and will never do it again. I hatched from a bator and the males turned so mean. They attacked me and my little girl so much we sold them. I had lavender, splash, black Spanish and bronze. The hens were also mean. They killed many of my chickens before I figured out what was going on. They would peck them in the head and stomp them over and over. Beautiful birds, but I will content myself with watching the wild ones here.
Oh Harmony they are SOOOO cute! I love the little butts! Their tails look like they could just grow into little piggie tails! They are just adorable. I can't wait to have a baby pigeon in the spring. Your arc angel is just gorgeous - what beautiful colors. I just love that tuft on his head. His neck looks like it is glowing! I wish the sun would come out here so I could take some better pictures of mine. :-(
Well i can't wait till i can see somebody elses pigeons besides mine.
It's hard not haveing somebody to share with and now i do thank you Claire^_^

claire, beautiful babies, love them!!!
Claire how are your new pigeons doing you haven't spoken of them in a few days and did you see the link i found.
Hi Harmony,
They are doing well so far. I finally was able to get proper pigeon feed today. I was giving them chicken scratch and chick crumbles before because I could not find proper pigeon feed. Now I know where to get it. I have them in a larger cage now and they are doing some interesting dancing moves! They are fascinating to watch. I am going to build separate nesting areas for them this weekend I hope.
That link was great - I haven't checked it out completely yet but I have it bookmarked for further investigation! Thanks for sharing it!
I found it by accident looking for pigeon pox information and i actually sent a question and i got an answer from John in no time telling me not to worry my pigeons wouldn't get the pox.
He's very friendly and was excited when i told him i was putting his link here.
An English immigrant named William Pensom developed a strain of of rollers that was considered the the best performing rollers in the country, some roller breeders today still boast that their birds have Pensom bloodlines. Richard Jackenette (sp) ,of Cal.,took the Pensom bidrs to the next level by selective breeding. A lot of people are selling birds that they claim are bred down from Pensom or Jackenette birds, maybe yes, maybe not, there's no way it can be proved. Just because you have these bloodlines doesn't mean all the off-spring will be good performing birds,it all depends on how the birds are bread. Breeding best to best & culling heavily.
So a jackonette is just a bird from the so called line breed from Richard Jackenette.
In so many words some of these birds may be knock offs and not true Jackenette's.
I find the same thing only it's chickens people selling tiny OEGB and saying they are Seramas or claiming the large Seramas are OEGB. Can anybody tell me how to spot the difference in these small chickens. I've seen seramas that look just like my brown reds and if anybody has information could you start a new thread on this subject.
alot of the colors r the same because people cross them. the # one difference is the possition of the wings, how they pose and size.
