I spoke with someone who said she wanted wild morning glory seeds. But I have Old Timer's disease and can't remember who it was. If that person will d-mail me with your address, I'll mail them out this week.
Arlington RU Fall 2008 - Questions
Pattie, I imagine there will be many questions about plants, and this is a good way to figure it out.
Anna, did you get a white star Hibiscus? I ended up with seeds and a plant. I think one or the other is supposed to be yours.
Mibus, I ended up with an envelope of seeds intended for you. I'll get them to you.
And I have a envelope of cypress vine seed that say's "Sylvia". Are these for, or from Sylvia?
Yes, Cocoa, they're from me to Sylvia. You can just toss them. I'll get some more for Sylvia and mail them to her.
I ended up with a Texas Star hibiscus, it doesn't say red or white, that either from Dature12, or for Datura12, does anyone know something about it?
I also took all the left over plants from T.J.
Thanks Cocoa. It looks like it will be a beauty.
I have some white hibiscus seeds that are marked " MamaJack 07" I thought they were from Dennis. Either way, I am looking forward to trying.
I received two succulents in plastic bags. One of them looks like some kind of aloe, and the other one might be a sedum. Does anyone have any more information about them?
Anna, those white hibiscus seeds are some that I got at last year's RU and had very good luck with. I have one in my bed's here, and the one I gave to cocoa_lulu was from that batch.
Also, I ended up with a box of stuff, all of which was for me except for one small white mistflower that was supposed to go to Tanarae. Oops!
Dennis
Dennis, I gave you torch aloe and dune aloe, but I put them in paper bags and labeled them. I also gave you a rooted succulent that has a reddish tint to its fleshy green leaves. I honestly don't know what kind of bag I put it in as I was running really late and trying to grab what I could. I do not know what the plant is, but it makes a great pot plant and makes lots of runners and new plants. The ghost plant along with a reddish succulent are in about an 8" pot. I probably gave you another bag containing a clump of a green succulent that makes new plants around the leaves, so it's probably in the same family as mother-of-thousands. I'm sorry that I did not do a better job of labeling, but last week really fell apart on me.
No reason to apologize - I'm just glad to have the plants!! Do you know which ones need to be brought in for the winter?
Thanks!
Dennis
That I do know. All of them. I have not tried leaving the green mother-of-thousands relative or the ghost plant outside, but I know for sure the others won't survive freezing weather.

Becky, do you have any advice on the beautiful Brazos mint you gave me? I can't find much of anything about it on the internet. I'm wondering how big it gets, if it spreads, and what light/moisture conditions it likes. Any help you can give would be very much appreciated. I'd hate to kill it right off! :)
Dennis
if the envelope has the name of the seeds in the middle and mibus in the upper left corner like a return address then I brought them. ...which would have been red texas star hib. seeds as the other envelope I brought was for dennis
ok not the ones I took then LOL
I'm listed in the exchange or next time your over this way let me know and we can hook up someplace in Tyler
with the new position I have from 9-11 free then 1:30 -2:30 free or after 5 LOL
Kitty lover, you mentioned using a knife to cut cannas or bananas....where did you get them from ?
The co-op AM Leonard - Soil Knife w/pouch $14.95? - check thread- You order it by phone - he ships direct - & said he would honor all co-op prices till Dec 31st - love everything I got from them I use the knife for practically everything - when you need to separate cannas - cuts right thru-- the bananas were difficult esp 'cause they come up where you can't dig them - one lodged itself between sprinkler head and fence -Now I just hack those off at ground level - the trunk dries up like bark
Lynea.. aren't you a sweetheart.l... I had meant for those seeds to go to Phyllis... but it would be just like me to give them to you..lol
Dennis. The brazos mint... grows here in full sun to part shade, and are totally reliant on mother nature for all their needs, but I have found they seem to be greener in part shade, and flower just as well too! They will flower from spring until frost I guess. I know they multiply, but haven't dug enough to really know much about them. Hope that helps!
That does help, Becky. Thanks! I was thinking about planting it in a partial shade spot, and was concerned that it might want full sun. Hopefully it doesn't demand very dry conditions, since the spot will be covered by a sprinkler... It is a really neat looking plant. I'm surprised that I couldn't find much out there about it.
Dennis
Dennis... I actually found what I thought my plant looked like here on Daves, and that is how I called it the Brazos Mint. It might not be called that! If it doesn't like it where you are going to put it, that's no problem! We can get another plant next year!!
Just to clarify, the white hibiscus seeds were from Smockette 07.
Yup, I got them from her at the last fall RU, and passed them onto you after planting a few myself. :)
Dennis
Becky, is this what your mint looks like?

Josephine.
Still trying to remember who asked me for wild morning glory seeds. :)
No.. Josephine... these flowers are purple, and bloom up the "stalk" kinda like gladiolas. Wish I'd taken pics, and I am sure they were getting close to the end of their bloom period when i gave them to Dennis... just a couple blooms still on there.
O.K. Becky, did it look more like this?

Josephine and Dennis... I did a lil more research.....I think it is called Prarie Brazos Mint.... warnockia scutellarioides.. I am not positive, and while I was out there getting Dennis trade, I also saw another one that looked very similar. The leaves were longer, but the flowers were similar. I first dug one up for identification when I went to Charlenes RU. That is how I know it blooms from spring to frost.. at least it was blooming when I dug it. It's a pretty lil flower and I would think enmass it would really shine in the garden.
Josephine.. you are always so helpful to all of us!! It's a pleasure to call you my friend!!
Thank you Becky you are so generous. This is the link to Prairie Brazos Mint;

well heck... Josephine....lol.. this may not be it then. From what I was reading ... mine aren't vines... and they have a longer bloom time than the brazos mint. I also am not in central TX where it said it was most prominent. Tomorrow.. I'll try to go out and take pics. The other plant looked like it might have a lil more bloom time, whereas the "brazos mint" one looked like it was near it's end for blooms!
Well, I am not trying to give you a problem, sometimes plants are hard to identify, but if we like them, it doesn't matter whether we know their name or not, right?
LOL... Josephine... you are right, but it never hurts to know their real name! Not only does it excite me to find plants in the wild, but also it's another adventure to find out what it is!! TY for helping me!
I'm on a short trip right now, but it was still blooming when I left the house yesterday. I'll take a picture and post it if it is still going when I get home on Sunday.
Dennis
Great Dennis... here's hoping it still has blooms, and I'll look tomorrow, and hopefully I can get pics of the other one too!!
I just found a plant marker for Strawberry Geranium/Patrob. I hope I gave you your plant instead of thinking it was an extra.
kind of off subject but--------i am bringing in my house plants and wonder if i should bring in a hens and chick pot--it is like a strawberry pot where the hens and chicks sort of spill out different holes--i think hens and chicks can survive our north texas winters in the ground but don't know for sure and definately don't know about the ones grown in pots
Anna, I do have a strawberry geranium from you, so perhaps the one you still have is an extra. Thank you for checking.
