Just stopping by to give an update on a Pied Crow reported being seen in Linthicum Maryland. I saw him or one like it today 10/19/2008 in the parking lot of the new Super Wal-Mart on Washington Blvd which is not far from Linthicum, which make me think it was the same bird. It was hanging around a dumpster by a cluck u chicken that is still under construction with a bunch of other America crows. Unfortunate I did not have my camera with me I will try to swing by there tomorrow with my camera and try to get its picture if it is still in the area.
Pied Crow
Hi Stoppingby. I looked the pied crows up and I can see why you are excited. Hope you get a picture
stoppingby, thank you for the post. I will keep an eye out for him in my travels. A Pied Crow has been seen by others on occasion. It most likely could be the same one. On 3/2/07, I took a number of photos of a Pied Crow at Southwest Area Park (SWAP) in Baltimore Highlands. Most, if not all U.S. Pied Crows are captured birds that have escaped from captivity. I was fortunate enough to get a photograph with a metal ring around his leg. Nonetheless, it was an unusual sighting and he does hang around with the other crows. He travels around quite a bit. Last time I heard of him he was seen at the corner of Hammonds Lane and Ritchie Highway in Brooklyn Park, earlier this year. Nonetheless, it is a challenge to find him and then get a photograph. Good luck !!! Never know, next time you see him, he could be in your backyard.
Note the metal hook on his leg .....
Native to Sub-Saharan Africa. Yep, most likely escaped from a cage (particularly Linth's, with its leg ring), but not totally impossible that one could hitch a ride on a ship.
