Looking for the bluest I. nil and perhaps the reddest SOH

Toronto, ON(Zone 5b)

I'll be using them for hybridization experiment over the winter. I'll pay for postage, I only need 3 seeds. I have a couple blue mgs but I don't think they're as blue as I want them to be.

I'm looking for the bluest Japanese Morning Glory, like this blue http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=38435; doesn't have to have a cultivar name, I just need this color for an experiment hehe.

I'm about to buy the "reddest" MG on ebay, but it's not Scarlet O hara. Also looking for the reddest soh if anybody has it.

If anybody has any of the seeds above, please let me know and I'll reimburse anything that is needed.

Hi Evr. . .

I do have Hatsu Arashi Seeds [these do not have variegated leaves]
Also have Blue Berlin [that does have variegated leaves]
as well as a few unknowns.

I will include these in our trade.

Emma

I have a nice red Scarlett O'Hara JMG. Do you still need a red one?

Joseph - Do your Scarlett O'Hara have the red throats? If so, I would love to trade you for some seeds. I've yet to get my hands on a "true" SOH.

No complete red throat, so sorry, although the red does extend fairly down the tube.

Think of the tube as the esophagus and the throat as the upper portion of the esophagus...the limb is like the 'giant lips' on the outside of the mouth of the GI tract of the entire flower...

Joseph - Do you have bloom photos of your SOH?

Here's a link to a photo of the Scarlett O'Hara I grew.

Joseph - Oh! those look pretty solid color to me!!! Are they actually pink color or red? I would love to get seeds of SOH that is a true red color. Most everything (except I. lobata) that I have grown has deep pink blooms, not a true red color. I would love to have seeds for a red blooming MG.

That's a close true representation of the color of that flower, so I guess it isn't the red you desire, Becky. I can let you have seeds of it if you wantt to grow Scarlett. LMK ok?

Yes, I would some of your seeds, Joseph! I really like the more solid color of your SOH! Very nice looking blooms on your vine! :-)

Joseph - I did get SOH locally, but she described the blooms as more magenta/pinkish. I didn't ask about throat colour though she did say it has a white "middle".

Ron your comment here - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=5759019 . is there a diagram where it distinguishes the ending/starting of the tube/throat/corolla aside from the sticky forum? Kinda out of topic from this thread, I'm no botanist so I have to start from the beginning when it comes to plant anatomy...

The corolla comprise of:
Tube
Throat and
Limb?

and each of these parts can display different colours. Is this correct? I have to be specific on my catalog/records and I still need some editing to do on my papers..

evr - Here is a link to a diagram, albeit not a very good one
http://www.cs.umb.edu/~whaber/Monte/Plant/Conv/conv-part.html

The tube and limb are different parts of the corolla and may display different colorations...there may be structural overlap in the distribution of the color...

The limb is the part of the corolla that begins where the corolla flares out above the tube at the point where the secondary folds begin...the throat is usually the area near the top of the tube and sometimes the limb near the top of the tube...

The creases seen on the outside of this flowerbud of Ipomea purpurea
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/22914/
correspond to the basal area of the secondary folds and the start of where the corolla limb starts to flare out

Hope that helps...

Ron
