HA HA... I remember emailing with a Danish collector who said she had 250 hoyas growing in a 2 bedroom apt.... that her daughter "is complaining because she has 50 hoyas in her bedroom". Her comment on the daughter?
"She'll get over it". I know that the Swedes, Norwegians and Danes grow TONS of plants indoors and they bloom better than any plants I have ever seen!!!

Hoya Linearis
Oh, I love that! I would love to have 250 of all different kinds of plants growing inside but I'm afraid my DH would not be a happy person, and I don't think he could "get over it", LOL. He likes flowers and plants but I'm thinking he would feel too encroached upon with that many indoors! It can be done though. If I lived alone, it would be me, my cats, and my plants! I've been called the cookie lady, the plant lady, the cat lady ... why not the crazycookieplantcatlady?!
I thought I'd bump this thread and ask how everyone's H. linearis is doing?
Mine is still alive but sure doesn't look as pretty as when it arrived. I don't seem to have the "attachment" to this one as I do to others so it won't bother me if it kicks the bucket, LOL. It's not turning out to be one of my favorite's! I think it would prefer living somewhere else, maybe someplace not so warm and humid. When the weather warms up in spring, if it's still alive, I will give it to anyone who wants it.
I prefer the Hoya's that have the thicker, larger leaves and stems, they seem to do well for my conditions, I just ignore them and let them do their thing and just spray them with the hose once in awhile.
Hope y'all who ordered this one are having good luck with it and that it's thriving for you!
Lin, don't give up on it!! I didn't think mine would survive the move and such different conditions, so I stuck it out on the plant shelf where it got watered by the sprinkler system every other day (supposedly a death sentence) and got full afternoon sun from about 2 pm until sunset (another no-no, I'd heard). That plant not only survived, it thrived and bloomed for me... four peduncles at once! It'll grow on you, I promise. :)
Barb
Barb, Thanks for the pep talk, maybe I should try giving that hoya a pep talk, LOL. I'm just not real fond of this one now that I have it! I thought I really wanted it when I saw the photo's, it just looked so neat with those long tendril looking branches. It's still hanging on my front porch, probably dying of thirst (it's been a few weeks since it got watered) and we've had a couple of very cold nights ... low 40's. We are supposed to have temps in the mid 30's tomorrow night! Yikes, that is too cold for any living thing, LOL. Maybe I will bring the linearis inside tomorrow.
Funny that you should ask! Mine had started to look so crappy that I cut it up this past weekend and put everything that was still healthy in the semihydro. It had gotten to the point that half of the plant looked dead and half of it was spitting out new growth, yet it was all mixed together.

This isnt an easy Hoya....but if you manage to get it to grow well, its very luxuriant and a beautifully lush plant that will be covered in scented flowers.....dont give up on it yet
Dominic
I received a beautiful H. linearis from a dear friend on this forum...and as it is from EA it is hanging under the eave of the house in very bright light, some sun, i have not watered it in a month and it is thriving!!! I may water it from underneath (like a wick) when and IF it gets dry...but I am so proud of it!!!
Oooh, Susan ... a rare plant store? How great is that! I bet it's a really fun place to visit!
I have a Rhip that looks so similar to Linearis. They both look so ratty right now but if I get a chance tomorrow I will go out and take a picture of them side by side! I can't remember the name of the Rhipsalis.
Saw all the posts about seeking H. lineraris. I found it last week at Lowe's. At first glance, I thought it was a Rhipsalis - I did a double take when I saw the label, grabbed it and ran to the check-out. Stuck some cuttings and it now has a home with my other Hoyas.
Hi sharonbanister,
Was it at Bryan or College Station? Did they have more? Sorry so many questions, I ask because I have two sons at Texas A&M, and if there are more I can ask them to buy one so I can get it for Carol.
Thank you, I'll be waiting for your answer since they are ready to come home for the holidays.
