Autumn Colors

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

leeflea51 - NB stands for New Brunswick.

I DID manage to get some autumn colour as we drove back from Mt. Tremblant yesterday and there is more colour left in Ottawa than I though. Seems like it's just my own backyard maple that lost all its leaves last week.

This was the ski hill at Tremblant. Still some golds around.

One brilliant maple in a sheltered location at Tremblant.

ViolaAnn, thanks for telling me of the abbreviation, I'll not forget it. Tremblant is like a fairy land. just beautiful.
Here in the Deep South, our leaf colors are brief. the first to show color is usually the sumac followed by the gums, then the dogwoods and hickories. The hickories are usually a bright yellow, whereas the others are usually red to purple to burgundy.
I've always been fascinated with tapping of the sugar maples. I do so like maple syrup but it is so expensive but worth every cent.
The only part of Canada I've been to was Windsor. I used to visit relatives who lived in Detroit and we'd go up the St. Claire river on a very enjooyable cruise. Windsor wa lovely.
Thank you for posting the pics. Our temp for the overnight should only be in the mid to low 40's and our first freeze occurs about the first week in Nov.
I do so love sweater weather. I was born and reared in the South and never have adjusted to the heat and humidity. My ancestors must have come from the far north of Europe and my genes still remember that. lol..
Tale care, Lee

Very pretty shots, Ann. :)

The Frost photos are ...ok, I'm trying here, nice. Maybe we should start a Frost thread soon, as I am sure all of us will be able to contribute to it before long.

Lee, BC is an abreviation for British Columbia, the far west province in Canada. :D

Golden, MS(Zone 7a)

Don, thanks for your help and please forgive my ignorance regarding the provinces. From what I've seen on TV, BC is a lovely place. Would love to visit there one day. Is BC the area where there are Banana Slugs? They interest me for some reason.
Take care and sleep well.
Your more informed pal, Lee

leeflea51 - if you are interested in seeing Canada - you might like to check out the 'Canada Through Your Eyes' threads. This is the link to the 3rd one, but there are two earlier ones as well. I think there are links back to the earlier ones within the threads.

ViolaAnn, i most assuredly will go to the links you provided. I just think Canada is lovely. i'd have trouble with the Frendh language, though. One year in high school wasn't enough. I picture Canadians, in general, as kind, helpful people with a great deal of dignity. Am I wrong?
Againk thanks for the info. So kind of you to help me learn more of your country. After all, we are neighbors, Lee

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

For sure... ☺

I think we should adopt Lee!

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

but but....... there was still color in my fall pic Don. white is a color and there's a few reddish leaves there too. LOL and it was taken in the Autumn season. And and and...... this is what come next.
OK OK I stick with bright leaves.

Ann lovely photos, I love Mont Tremblant in the fall. Went there last year and the year before it was wonderful. They have lots of beautiful lakes too. Thanks for answering Lee concerning NB.

LOL. I do agree, burn. White is a color, and the red was there too. They were very pretty photos; just my feeble attempt at humour. White will be the primary color of most of Canada in the next several weeks, I am sure. :)

Golden, MS(Zone 7a)

My Canadian friends, wanted to let you know that about the only leaf color change is on the dogwoods and sweet gums and sumac. The others, such as the hardwood, have yet, to sport their Autumn colors. I'm still being patient. Lee

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

I have a few that aren't changing yet, either...much to my chagrin. Magnolia is just starting, and my roses are still way too green. I am waiting for my Hybrid Tea's to drop their leaves so that I can finish the process of winter protection. I like to use Wilt Pruf on the Roses and Magnolia and wrap the HT's as well as mulch before we head South to Arizona in 3 weeks. Trouble is, it has been too warm during the day and not cold enough at night to get the process going. I am a little worried, but still haven't given up hope that it will happen in time.

Golden, MS(Zone 7a)

The temps are finally going down and later next week we should have our first freeze. Maybe it will start the process. Have fun in Arizona. Lee

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

Thanks Lee; we always do enjoy our time spent there. It's the only time we can visit with our kids and family that reside in Tucson and Southern California. :)

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Arizona! What a nice place for a vacation from the cold weather. Enjoy yourself with the family. And yes I knew you were joking with regard my frost pic.

Golden, MS(Zone 7a)

sandy, am still waiting the adoption process. Lee

White Lake, ON(Zone 4b)

Hey, Lee, the papers are on their way! Aw, who needs papers. Consider yourself adopted! Now, that means you have to learn to say 'eh' at the end of most sentences ....OK, eh?

Sandy

Golden, MS(Zone 7a)

sanannie, yeah, what difference do papers make. I am now a Canadian..Yipee lee

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Hey welcome across lee, nice of Sandy to adopt you eh? lol. There's no pretty colors left here, what i have are pictures from a few weeks ago.

Oh wow there's still some nice color up your way!
No , that is Lake Edward, in New-Denmark, which is about 10-15km from here.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Burn - there was quite a bit of colour, especially at the Arboretum where Sandy and I started our tour with the Gnomes. But that spot she showed was especially nice. A red maple next to a yellow one and a carpet of coloured leaves on the ground.

Golden, MS(Zone 7a)

We are getting the first coloring of the leaves, esp.,. the maples and glorious they are. Lee

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Ann And Sandy heard you got some snow in Nepean areas, quit a bit too, for this time of year. There was a mix of rain and snow here this morning, but not enough to accumulate on the ground. Do like the carpet of leaves in both your pictures.

Lee your turn to experience this nice season of color. Hope it last longer for you then it did for me.

Golden, MS(Zone 7a)

Saw the most stunning maple y'day. Practically ablaze. Don't know what kind though. Our dogwoods, sumacs and gums are showing now. Our oaks are not spectacular, though. Our pear trees are getting some burgandy on them. They are usually quite nice. Many of our other hardwoods just go brown. Con't to enjoy your colors and make us Deep Southerners jealoul. LOL Lee

Thanks, Don. Dang, I wish it was possible to post more than 1 photo at a time here.
Anyway, a late aster whose name I've lost (A. lateriflorus?)

altagardener - enjoyed both. I've found it helpful, if I want to post quite a few pics, to open the thread twice in two different windows. I can prepare the sending of one pic while the other one is doing its thing. That speeds things up quite a bit.

Ann
