Are these some kind of bees? Their wings look like butterfly wings but the bodies are striped like that of bees. Are those stripes predatory deterrents? I found them in India about a month and a half ago during the rainy season.

They're moths - there's a very similar-looking genus of moths in the US called Syntomeida. Maybe they exist there too, or there's another similar genus? It's a start anyway.

A very similar appearing species in the genus Eressa occurs in Australia - see http://www-staff.it.uts.edu.au/~don/larvae/arct/angust.html for an image. Species in this genus reported from India include Eressa confinis, Eressa discinota, Eressa eressoides, Eressa lepcha, Eressa microchilus, and Eressa nigra.
