CLOSED: Can you ID these mating insects?

Chennai, India

Are these some kind of bees? Their wings look like butterfly wings but the bodies are striped like that of bees. Are those stripes predatory deterrents? I found them in India about a month and a half ago during the rainy season.

They're moths - there's a very similar-looking genus of moths in the US called Syntomeida. Maybe they exist there too, or there's another similar genus? It's a start anyway.

A very similar appearing species in the genus Eressa occurs in Australia - see http://www-staff.it.uts.edu.au/~don/larvae/arct/angust.html for an image. Species in this genus reported from India include Eressa confinis, Eressa discinota, Eressa eressoides, Eressa lepcha, Eressa microchilus, and Eressa nigra.
