Sick Native Texas Cedar

College Station, TX

Ten days ago this native Texas cedar was healthy & beautiful. I came home from a trip to find it drooping and yellow. Nothing has changed in it's environment that I know of. Could it be lack of water? A disease? Any ideas what I might do to save it? Sorry, I don't know it's botanical name. It's just the regular old cedar that grows wild around here. I would appreciate any help you can give me as I would hate to lose this tree.

That's a juniper Juniperus or perhaps a cypress Chamaecyparis, not a cedar Cedrus (not least, there's no cedars native to Texas, they're an Old World genus).

Sorry, too late to save it, it is dead now. Unlikely to be drought, as junipers are very drought resistant. Possibly Phytophthora root rot, particularly if it has been watered a lot.

PS cedar foliage & cone for comparison:

I was afraid it was too late. It must be a juniper. We've just always called them cedars. It's definitely not too much water since it only gets natural rainfall and we've had none since early September. Thanks for the information!
