False spring?

Pelzer, SC(Zone 7b)

Several of my shrubs that usually flower only in spring or early summer are confused. They have bloomed or are beginning to do so. The Fringe tree, Butterfly Bush and Camellias all were involved, The fringe tree was first (went form full bloom to fall color, the the BB, and now my camellias are beginning to bloom. The camellias have only bloomed in very early spring, early enough that the blooms have frozen the past three years. Why are they blooming now? Is it because of the drought we've been in for two years?
Anything I should do, other than just enjoy them?

Thanks,
margo

You know what, some of the plants here are doing the same thing. After hurricane Ike came through, many trees were defoliated, and now are blooming! I have never seen our bradford pear with so many blooms. It may have to do with the plant being stressed (like in your droughts and our hurricane). I don't really know. I wonder if it is bad for the plants? But what can you do, other than enjoy it like you said....

I have a plum that lost all it's leaves after we got all that rain. New leaves are coming out and it's blooming. Wonder if I'll get plums again?

I'm not expert, but I think it's a sign of a distressed plant.
I would think if it's just the result of an unusual weather-related stress, it would handle it fine.
But I've had a couple trees which started blooming in fall as they declined and ultimately died.

I guess there's no real answer. It's funny, the blooms are much nicer than they've ever been in the spring, and lasting longer. Guess I'll just enjoy the show, and hope they're not on their way out...:)
