BC is 4 weeks now and look how he's grown.

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

No thanks, I wouldn't eat veal and I wouldn't want to eat a young or unborn bird.

So Harmony... would you ever ship eggs? The guy across the street from me raises doves... I wonder if we could slip a few under a nesting mama next season??? ~8-D

(Zone 7b)

Lady to answer your question I don't believe they would make it a Doves eggs are paper thin and very fragile.
From what i read here the post office is ruff on eggs and some arrive damaged so i'm positive these tiny fragile eggs would never get there in one piece.

A note it's a full moon and my Doves are cooing in the moon light (kinda spooky that lonesome sound drifting through the dark)

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Well double-drat. I'll have to secure beautiful doves from elsewhere. :-S

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Isn't that a song? ....everybody was cooing in the moonlight...blah blah blah....outta sight.... (i forget the words)

(Zone 7b)

Claire that would be "Dancin in the moonlight"

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Oh Harmony....details, details.....I think cooing is better.... ;-)

(Zone 7b)

Details??

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

I meant "oh, to heck with the details" as in dancing...cooing...whichever, I'm doing the cooing dance instead of the dancing dance. :-)

(Zone 7b)

Dove's don't dance they bow coo which means the male which is the one who coo's will stand and repeatedly Bow and he is cooing at the same time.

What they were doing last night is just cooing that lonesome dove sound you hear on cool quiet mornings.

Pigeons dance.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

The show offs! LOL

The Dalles, OR

Harmony what breeds and colors do you have for pigeons and doves?

Lodi, United States

Moxon--the city pigeons are feral Rock Doves/Pigeons. They do well in the city because the original species lived on cliffs.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Did I ask about city pigeons? I don't remember asking about that....

Here is a little secret - let's see how long it takes for Harmony to find it - tonight I am going to look at a guy who has roller pigeons for sale on Craig's List. Well, I'm going to look at his pigeons, not him. I MIGHT get a pair...I will see....

(Zone 7b)

In Doves i have Peach, Tangerine pied, Tangerine Pearl, Frosty, Wild, Pure White, Ash, Rosey, and I'm working on Pink.
Pigeons i have Black winged owls, Brown winged owls, light brown wing owls and workin on yellow winged owls. I have pure white fantails and black fantails which anybody can have due to i bred them and they had bronze babys which means their mixed. I also have one very lonely Arc Angel who i need to find time to buy a mate for him.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Harmony...I can't believe you didn't comment on my possible pigeon purchase....

(Zone 7b)

Claire Roller pigeons are very flighty and nervous and you have to be able to let them fly.

I would sudjest maybe some the owls or figurita's or fantails they are less likely to fly out in your face and they are people friendly.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Oh, that is weird, I read online that they are a good one to start with because they don't fly. Now I'm confused.

Here is the quote I read:
"One of the most misunderstood phases of raising parlor rollers has to be the management of the loft and nesting arrangements. Parlors can be kept in a relatively small area compared to other breeds. To keep everything in perspective, just keep in the front of your mind that they cannot fly, so they do not need heights. Because of this, 18 inches is plenty for a nesting area. Rabbit hutches are ideal."

And it came from here:
http://www.parlorroller.com/lofts.html

Lodi, United States

Is there a difference between "roller" and "parlor roller". Like the difference between "grand piano" and "parlor grand piano'?

And no Moxon--you did not ask about city pigeons--it was CajuninKy---who now is my BFF because they are inquisitive and open minded:0P

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

(Moxon crying in the corner)

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

A body can never have too many friends! LOL Did we ever get the straight of the squab thing? Have any of you ever eaten squab? Please don't tell me it tastes like chicken! LOL

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Doesn't every thing taste like chicken?????

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

Most folks seem to think so. As a Cajun I think the taste of anything is all in the seasoning. Our motto is "Anything tastes good if it's cooked right". Here's a riddle for you. How can you tell the Cajun from all the other visitors at the zoo? He / she is the only one with a recipe for every animal in there. LOL

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

LOL!!!!!!

(Zone 7b)

Claire you said roller pigeons not parlor rollers and i know nothing about those so if you saw it online then it's probably so.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Oh, I thought "Parlor Rollers" was the name of the guy's breeding operation and that he was breeding Roller Pigeons. Like Moxon Chickens. So I didn't realize they were different. I'm such a dunce.

Lodi, United States

Cajun---I told Moxon she could be my BFF again when I learned about her Penedesenca--but you make a convincing argument for your re-elevation with the zoo and the seasoning comments. Shhhhh!

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Awww.....no fair!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Why not have a Am BBFF and PMBBFF or a DBBFFS ????

Lodi, United States

No--its okay Moxie baby--go see the other thread--

You're safe--

Sorta--

For now......

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

Oh, the searing pain inflicted by the sword of the fickle.

Lodi, United States

It is HARD being fickle. I have to really work at it. Constantly weighing the advantages and disadvantages of conflicting empty promises and how I can best profit from them.

Okay, I'll just come out with it:

I want Penedesenca eggs AND spicy Cajun food. So if I have to spread myself thin and have two VVGFF instead of one BFF, so be it.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

Fickle yet truthful. Worthy of close observation.
