My first few flowers for the season...

Pretoria, South Africa

I have been drooling over your pictures for the past few months, and at last I can show you a few of my own. Most of my vines are still small, but a few has decided to surprise me with some flowers.

The first one is from some seed I received from Joseph last year - "Shiro Murasaki Shibori Kongo". I just love this vine.

This one is from some seed I harvested last year. Can't remember that I had anything looking remotely like this...

Elsa - Ooooooooooh! Your blooms are gorgeous! And I love your Indigo Feathers! Another wonderful selection of vines you are currently growing out! I couldn't stop smiling as I looked at your photos! Keep them coming ... :-)

Pretoria, South Africa

Hi Becky, will do. You know how it is - going out early each morning to see if any of the vines have flowers on them - even before you've had you first cup of coffee. LOL!! Totally addictive....

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Elsa - LOL! I hear ya! I have to go out around 7 am to see what's got flowers and then rush inside, get ready for work, let the dog out, make my lunch, and then back outside with my camera to take photos, and finally paint brushes to try to pollinate all the blooms and then I am rushing to get to work! LOL! I wished I didn't have to be at work so early (8 am). But at least I am only about 10 minutes from the school I work at. I can't wait until daylight savings time ... it should be lighter earlier ... right???? Heehee!

Pretoria, South Africa

I usually go out before 6. After that it is a mad rush to get the children ready and off to school. I normally take photos just after dropping them off, in case I get busy and forget.
Some seem to dislike the heat we had the previous week. Had temps in the high nineties. Haven't had any rain so far, so I have to water them daily. Luckily most of them get some shade in the afternoon. I have them growing in pots in the garden, using existing plants for them to climb up against.
I found last year that the variegated leaves get sunburn if left out in the open all day. Can't blame them! LOL!

Here are some more photos...

This is from Joseph - JMG#20. It has lovely leaves...

Hi Elsa, very pretty blooms!

Thank you, Helena.

Elsa - I was just glancing at the threads listed and your first photo posted in the very first post caught my eye ... "Shiro Murasaki Shibori Kongo". Really????

I got seeds for "Shiro Murasaki Shibori Kongo" and this is what mine looks like. It's deep purple not the beautiful blue that yours is.

Does anyone know if "Shiro Murasaki Shibori Kongo" comes in different bloom colors?

Becky - You asked:

"Does anyone know if "Shiro Murasaki Shibori Kongo" comes in different bloom colors?"

The photo you posted is a blue-purple flaked Ipomoea purpurea
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/150686/

There are other other flaked colors in the PlantFiles
Pink flaked
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/65373/

Scroll down to my comments in the following entry
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/170340/

Shiro = white
Murasaki = purple
Shibori = flaked (in Ipomoea purpurea)
Kongo = mix

Hope that helps...

Hi Becky, it is more a purple than blue. For some reason my camera struggles with the purples. It tends to make it more blue... Pity.

Interesting, Ron. It is always nice to know what the names mean.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks Ron. So calling it "Shiro Murasaki Shibori Kongo" vs. "Aomurasakizyouhantensibori" would be correct? I am just trying to ID this one for trading purposes. Or is this one and the same and either name would be correct? Thanks for breaking down how the name is determined. Interesting!

Elsa - I wondered if your camera was picking up the correct colors. I have that problem too on some purples that I photograph. :-) Thanks for clarifying your colors, too!

This one was labeled I youjiro "Baby Bu N Pin". I like the pink in the throat...

Solid Chocolate. This flower was still beautiful by late afternoon in quite high temperatures.

I just love the "glitter" on this photo. It is SC taken with the flash on.

Elsa, love the star shaped blooms of solid choc.

Elsa, do you know if these are the ones I sent you? If so, it's nice to know that even though they were open-pollinated, that they came true.

This one looks like it might be the China Doll I sent you ? -
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=5687166

am enjoying your flowers, too

Pretoria, South Africa

Thanks, everyone...

Karen, yes, both "Baby Bu N Pin" and "Solid Chocolate" are from the seeds you sent me. I just love them. The "Velvet Plum" has been flowering as well, but the flowers were a bit misshapen. The one that opened today looks the best so far. The vine is covered in buds, and the largest so far of all my plants. I'd guess a good foot tall. I'm positive that the next flower will be perfectly shaped. I suspect the weather is to blame - we've had a few scorchers this past week, and although my plants get watered daily this one wilted. Can't blame the poor thing!

Let me quickly go and take a photo...

Dany12, I just love your China Doll! Please keep me in mind should you harvest enough seed...

Elsa

(Zone 7a)

Elsa, all of the flowers you posted from me originally came from EmmaGrace's generosity - thanks for letting me know how they turned out - I know she'd love to see this generation of her seeds, too.

oops - just noticed the one you called SC is a different shot of Solid Chocolate and not the China Doll from me - I think Dany's China Doll is quite an improvement.

Gautier, MS

Elsa your blooms are really nice, like your Kongo & baby bu!

Like your china doll Dany12.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Dany - Your China Doll is lovely! Looks like you are getting lots of blooms on that vine! :-)

Elsa - Your "Baby Bu N Pin" and Solid Chocolate blooms are just beautiful! I wonder what "Baby Bu N Pin" name means? Did you get them from Karen?

szarvas, Hungary

Yes a lot of flowers but ZERO seeds, i only stay with a lot of pics and my eyes to cry .
uuuuuh !
