Suggestions for Saving Heliotrope Seeds?

Langley, WA(Zone 8b)

Has anyone found a convenient method for separating Heliotropium arborescens seeds from the unwanted material in the flower head? I was harvesting some more seeds last night and I'm sure (at least I'm hoping ;)) that there must be an easier way than the hand sorting I do. Any suggestions would be incredibly appreciated.

Thanks,
Amanda

Cleaning seed is my least favorite chore which is probably why most of the flat surfaces in my home are covered with saucers of pods/heads right now LOL. I have a great sets of different sieves for seed that is smaller than the chaff. I got them at the loonie/dollar store. The 'shake and bake' method also works too if the seed is heavier than the chaff. Throw it in a baggie and shake and and the seed will settle at the bottom of the bag. Staring at them in frustration doesn't work at all. Hope this helps.

I hear you on the lack of flat surfaces ;) And thank you very much for the suggestions. I don't have a proper sized sieve or screen for these seeds, but I haven't yet tried shake and baking this variety so it's certainly worth a try. Thanks!

Most of the seed I collect is slightly heavier than the chaff. I put everything in a bowl and do the 'swirl and blow'. By blowing gently, the chaff will fly off leaving the seed behind.
